Edit metadata dialog: Where is the red text in Author/Title sort boxes?

The value in Author/Title sort boxes used to turn red when it differed from the information in Author and Title field.

Not anymore for me. What's happened?

It changed to an error icon in 6.12 due to red/green borders not working for people with the most common form of colourblindness.

okay, but this doesn't work for me, so I would like to have this reverted. This makes sorting through 500+ newly added books weekly take most likely 3 or 4 times as long. Make it an option, don't just change things like this for no real reason.

why change things that have worked fine for years.

I requested that Kovid make this an option, but he turned it down. Feel free to make your case though.

that has to be the dumbest thing I've ever read. He can change it at the request of 1 person when it's been working fine for years, but can't make it a setting?
I guess I will forever be stuck on Calibre 6.11 now then.

It didn't work for people who have the most common form of colourblindness. That said, I think having both colour and icon would be the better choice as it's usable for everyone.

I have also made an account and replied to the ticket.

I apologize if I came off strong or anything, I just got done with working our library and being very annoyed with this change as it cost me a lot of time.

Alternatively, an option to always update the Title/Author sort field from the dialog window.

It already does from the column view, must re-learn but old habits are hard to break.

?? The Author or Title sorts have not changed their operation in the MDE (since before 2010) .
The only thing that changed was the Indication to be more user friendly to those with vision issues.

You still click the button on the right of the error.

There's a change in source to use both the green/red border and icon

Right, because the color is missing I frequently forgot to click the "update title sort" button.

My suggestion was since I always want updated title sorts, why can't it do it for me? Eliminate user error...

I sometimes miss that a search is invalid because I failed to notice the icon at the very edge of the field.

Select all, run Edit Metadata (Bulk), and check the box "Update title sort". Job done for all books.

Quality check Plugin can find just those the the sort is wrong.

BTW there are a few cases where you do not want the standard sort, which is why it is a separate operation.
I believe Language differences in the same Library might be one...
