Error opening Reader

I recently downloaded the 6.0 version (portable) and have not been able to view my books. When I try to open the viewer i get this error

calibre, version 6.12.0
ERROR: Render process crashed: The Qt WebEngine Render process has crashed. You should try restarting the viewer.

I did what it suggested restarting, but nothing changes. I have no programming skills, any help?

What type of video card do you have? Are the drivers updated? You might want to search this forum for --disable-gpu and how to set the environment variable in Windows. Something like QTWEBENGINE_CHROMIUM_FLAGS=--disable-gpu should show up.

BTW, if your drivers are updated, you may want to revert them to an older version since that has worked for some posters.

The Google search string I used was "QTWEBENGINE_CHROMIUM_FLAGS --disable-gpu site:mobileread.com" without the ''s.

I've seen something similar today: Updated to 6.12.0, restarted PC (running Win11), clicked on Calibre icon. Nothing happened.

Brought up task manager, tried to run it from there. Nothing happened. I can't even get a debug log to show as it doesn't get started.

Any suggestions on other ways to try to get info?
Meanwhile I rolled back to 6.11.

Its just offscreen use the windows shortcut to gather all offscreen windows back.
