Cant make a mega metadata reference book

Is there a limit to the number of tags a column can hold?

AM weeding out some 3000 tags (old bookshelves and their many, many, iterations of the same tag) and I am trying to do it in a separate dedicated libary. However, when I try to collect the tags in the dummy book only half of them will fill the column.

I open up bulk edit metadata and click on the tag editor next to the colum and copy over all the tags so that every tag is in the column. I close the editor and save the book. When I copy it to the library there are only half the tags.

Back in the original library, when I check to see if all the tags have copied over in the editor after copying them, closing the editor, then re-opening the editor I see the ones I just copied over back in the left pane. I just downloaded the newest version of calibre 6.5

Have you tried the option in Job Spy? I believe it's listed under the metadata options and is called something like "mega-reference book."

@chaley would probably know whether it's a db limitation or not.

There is no limit that I know of other than memory. I just made a comma-separated list of 5000 numbers 1 - 5000 and pasted it into Tags for a book. It took a little while but worked. I then copied Tags from book details and pasted it into Excel. All 5000 numbers were there.

If calibre runs out of memory then all bets are off. I can't guarantee that it will visibly fail in this case. It should, but ...
