epub with date in subtitle & view in categories
Hi there,
so far I had my calibre news recipes do to me .mobi files and then let calibre email them to my kindle. Worked great for more than 10 years. Now, as amazon no longer allows .mobi files, I changed the format in calibre to .epub. ... and was expecting the same results. I do have two things, that disturb me, I have no clue, whether I can sort this out: (1) The .mobi files were displayed in my Kindle e.g. as: Go Comics Fr., 24.06.2022 but with .epub files I only get a "calibre" in the second line. - Is there a way, to get the creation date displayed again? (2) The mobi files used my kindles section/ category functionality for the display. Now I only get a plaintext list with hyperlinks. - Can I motivate my kindle to do me the categories again? ... or should I rather use a different format for the emailing instead of .epub? Cheers, Hegi. |

Hi Kovid,
thanks for the hint, but this is not really answering my questions. I've been sending news automated by email to amazon for over 10 years and going back to a cable is not really an option ... especially, as it works, even if I'm travelling. Having "calibre" instead of the date in the subtitle should be someting, that is amendable ... or am I on the wrong path here? - If it comes really hard, there must be a way to put the date into the title ... otherwise there is no chance to keep different issues / weeks apart. If it catergory view of the mobi files is not supported in epub, that's a pity, but something I can live with. Cheers, Hegi. |

So complain to amazon. Or change your output format to EPUB as described in that FAQ and you will automatically get dates in titles.

Hi Kovid,
... no offence meant. - It's just that I don't get the dates in the booklist on my kindle, despite having the settings as described. - I must be overlooking something, though: I have the following settings:
The list of preferred source formats starts with EBUB, AZW3, ... and I moved MOBI way down the list. ... what am I missing ??? ... I still got no date in the book-list on the kindle. Could it be, that I need to change Preferences → Send books to device → template? Mine says currently "{author_sort}/{title} - {authors}" - do I need to insert {timestamp}? ... Have never changed this setting and my Calibre installation is 10 years+ ... but always updated ![]() Cheers, Hegi. |

That should be all you need, oh one more thing is to change your output profile in Conversion->Common options->Page setup to a non-Kindle one.

Hi Kovid,
yes, that solved this. - Changed from Kindle Paperwhite to E-Ink Reader big. - Maybe you want to add this to the FAQ to save you further posts on this issue? I also changed the EPUB form Version 2 to 3 somewhere along the way. Whether this has real impact I cannot say now. Maybe I'll try with Versio 2 again tonight. Now the date is in the title line (the subtitle stays at "calibre"), but that's not really worth bothering about. Thanks a lot for this help. However, other question: Is it worth / necessary to create a device profile with matching resolution? Is this something that can be done by myself as a layman? Or is it OK, if its roughly matching (reader 658x940, current working profile 600x999 ... that was the closest match). Thanks again & bests, Hegi. |

@hegi, you want to set your output profile to Tablet. That way the images do not get changed during a conversion.

Profiles are mostly irrelevant for modern devices, just choose the tablet profile or any profile whoose screen is bigger than your devices.
