How to book_count

Only for fun, I like to see how many books I own by an author which are not read yet.
Plugin ABC counts all books per author. Adding a query or reducing to a virtual libary is not possible.

Now I try to play around with buildin function.
Book_count should solve it but is is not available in the template drop down list. Although it is well documented in the calibre manual.

Can anyone give me some help here?

It is there for me. To see it you must be running calibre 6.0 or newer.

You will need to have a column to tell you if the eBook is read or not. The first thing to do is make this column (I suggest Y/N unless you want it to be a date column). And then you have to populate this column. After that you can follow @chaley's directions.

Integer (for percent read) also works, and is what Kobo Utilities uses when storing reading status from the device.

I waited until Calibre 6.1 to update and I'm glad I did. Calibre 6.2.1 (current version) is running well. I see no reason to hold off if you don't have to.
