Unable to uninstall Calibre 3.48

I am on a macbook running macOS 10.15.6.

I have manually deleted every Calibre related file from my Applications folder, and from ~/Library/Caches/calibre, ~Library/Saved Application State, and ~Library/Preferences, and my Calibre Library folder but I still get "calibre.app" as an option to open epub files when I right click on them.

When I install Calibre 5.44 it replaces the app in the applications folder but I then have both versions as options when right clicking an epub file. I have been trying to uninstall the previous version for a while now with no luck.

Any help on what to try next would be appreciated. Thank you!

You cannot install Calibre 3.48. It will not work. Calibre 5 changed the database format and once you run version 5, you cannot run 3.48. It won't work. Forget 3.48 and stick with 5.44.

You misunderstood my problem. I want to keep using 5.44 but I am unable to remove 3.48. I have deleted every file and even tried using AppCleaner to remove 3.48 but 3.48 keeps showing up on my machine (in addition to 5.44)

Did you try a reboot, Macs wont delete an app that's open, and is not always obvious that an app is open.

If that's not the problem, I suggest you google something like "Apple Mac won't let me delete application" and try the many options offered.

The rebooting didn't work for me and never found my exact issue online. I finally figured out that there was a calibre.app hidden in the Contents folder of a completely different app. Not sure if I accidentally dragged it in there back when I first installed Calibre 3.48 or if it got there some other way but deleting it from there solved the issue.

Thank you for your suggestions and for taking the time to try to help me out. I really appreciate it.

Is the calibre 3.48 entry actually functional? i.e. if you click on it does it open with calibre 3.48? If not its just a stale cache in macOS. Google how to remove file association/dock caches in macOS

It was functional, but I discovered (by holding command and clicking the icon in the dock) that there was an extra calibre.app file hidden in the package contents of a completely different application. So when I would delete and uninstall the one in my applications folder, the second one would still show up in context menus when opening compatible files. I deleted the second one and now only have Calibre 5.44 installed.

Thank you very much.
