import backup problems

hello. my laptop crashed and all my library was deleted. i installed the latest 64bit calibre and proceeded to import my backup. when i go to the folder where my backup files are, calibre doesn't read them. it just says "No items match your search." when i tried opening the file by clicking on it then using calibre as an app they just get imported to calibre as is, meaning they appear as part-0001, etc. can anyone help me with this? thanks in advance...

Start Calibre on an EMPTY library.
Use tool: (right click the Library icon) Export/Import all Library data: Import

The complete set (part####) files need to be in the same place.
That should give you the ability to do a full restore (or select if multiple libraries were included)

i don't understand how this will help my situation but i did it anyway. still the same problem. when i go to the folder where my backup is, it just says no items match your search. calibre is not reading the backup. thanks for the suggestion though...

using explorer: what are the file sizes of those part-nnnn.calibre-data files?
is there a 0001?
are all the files there from #1 thru the last in the set?

yes, i did. that's what i've been doing. but calibre does not recognize the files. it just says no items match your search as if the folder was empty. but when i use a file explorer, they're there...

Since the export and import are folder based, that error message is meaningless. You will need an empty folder (not a library, a completely empty folder to import the library too). You will also get your plugins and other bits and bobs so that may error out if you are importing into an existing calibre installation.

For my quick and dirty test, I exported one library to the Export Test directory and then imported it to an Import_Test directory. After the import, I added the Import_Test directory to calibre (use the Use the previously existing library at the new location option in the Switch/create library menu).

@logpond - You import the folder in which the "part-0001.calibre-data' files are contained.

Create a new Calibre library at c:\Calibre Library\Calibre2. Then do the import. That will work.
