Sync hanging?

Four times today I have tried to sync my Sage to download a new purchase. The first time, it got as far as removing books I'd archived, then hung, for 10 minutes or so before I cancelled. Since then, three attempts have each seen it stuck at "starting sync" - the current attempt is nearing 10 minutes. Is there anything I can do to fix this, or is it strictly server side?


EDIT: The sync attempt underway while I was typing my post ended when the device went to sleep - that's how long it took without even actually starting the sync process

It happened to me twice this week.

The first time I connected via the desktop app and it fixed itself. The second time it did not work and I did a factory reset because I also had other issues.

I think I usually let it go a couple of days before I do any thing about it...

I had that on two devices this week. My Clara & the Libra 2. I signed out of my Kobo account on the device & had to start from scratch. It solved the non-syncing/syncing problem. I set mine to never go to sleep & left the Clara for 4 days before I signed out. But now I can’t authorize the Clara with ADE because I seem to have reached the max of 6 devices. Urgh!!

I haven't managed to sync my Aura One since August 2020. I left it syncing, plugged in with sleep disabled, for several days once. Calibre says the database is fine. But I can interrupt the sync and manually download individual books. And software upgrades work.

Thank you all for the very helpful responses, very much appreciated. It's not critical as I have all the books available to me in KOReader, so I'll leave it for a few days and see what happens. I don't want to have to reset and start from scratch if I can avoid doing so.

If you just sign out all sideloaded books are there you just lose bookmarks and annotations. I know it’s a pain. Anything you’ve bought from the Kobo store you can just redownload. I don't use bookmarks or annotations, and I don't normally read books downloaded directly on to the device from the store. I usually de-drm them and sideload them as epubs for KOReader. I only tried synching this time because I wanted to try reading a store-bought kepub ib the new 4.32 firmware.

Sync hanging?

I’ve noticed this issue with my Elipsa and both our Claras. I solve it by moving closer to the Wi-Fi router. It may be completely coincidental, or maybe there’s an issue with the latest firmware not syncing with a less than full bar connection to the router. I’m keeping an eye on this issue since I’ve upgraded all my Kobos now to the latest firmware.

As all the attempts I mentioned took place somewhere between 1 meter and 1.1 meters from the router, moving closer is not really an option.

Over the last few weeks, before this issue ever happened to me, the size of the library on my device has shrunk noticeably, from around 1150 to around 880 at the moment.

Like I said, it could have been coincidental. Me tapping the sync button over and over again until I succeeded was likely the reason I got it to work I just thought I’d share my experience.

No worries. No part of my home is more than 8 meters from the router, so if weak signal was a problem, it would REALLY be a problem.

I've had this happen too. The fix that worked for me was to delete all of my collections and then sync again. Then I redid my collections, but reduced how many I have and it has been fine.

Could you clarify this for me please? I had hoped that simply waiting a few days would fix the problem, but it did not. My Sage still gets stuck spinning its wheel when I try to sync. When you say delete collections, how do I do that without deleting all the books? I would have thought that removing 200+ books from my reader would have reduced the number of collections anyway
