best ebook reader for communication with Calibre

Hello,

I have a very old ebook reader Sony PRS-650 and I am very satisfied with it. Only one thing is missing - I need more space. That is the reason why I am looking for a new ebook reader. Sony dont make new ereaders for a long time.
I tried Kindle PW10 generation, but this system is not user friendly for me. When I put my old books through Calibre, some of my covers vanished. It took only books, but my series not. My old Sony through Calibre perfectly saved my series and place all books in series in right sequence. But Kindle dont do that. I want to take all my books from my Calibre library with my series(!!!) and save them in a new ereader. Is there any ereader, that communicate with Calibre this way? I love my Calibre and now I see, that my 10 year old ereader was much better then new ereaders. When I travel, I dont have Calibre with me and I dont want to search on internet, which book is next in the serie.
I know that I am not common user. I dont have to have internet in ereader - I never use it to buy books this way. I allways buy books from my PC, then I transfer them to Calibre, and after that I use a cable to transfer it to my ereader. I dont need a pen (but my Sony have one perfectly saved on the right side of ereader), dont need to make a notes or draw.
But I need my series visible, I need to have books in series in right sequence, I need to have on home screen allways on the top book that I am reading. I wish (my old ereader have this) a name of book and name of author under the cover (it is perfect, because sometimes it is not visible on the cover). I need lots of space (32 GB) - for all of my books now and also in the future. Touchscreen is needed, but I would like to have also buttons. Backlight is needed, too. Warm light is great and I would like it. My next preferencies: 300 dpi, USB-C, long last battery, epub, e-ink Carta, aluminium cover.
I know that I will not have all of this (but I can wish).
My first choice was Kindle Oasis and I was waiting for a new paperwhite and also for an update. Finaly they found that book I am reading have to be first on the home screen! Hooray! I celebrated this. But until now they do not fix a problem with series, when I am uploading them into ereader from Calibre - and I will not buy a ereader without ability to transfer books with series from Calibre.
My second choice is Kobo Saga. Is it a good choice for someone, who want to transfer books with series and have this series visible in ereader?
Which one ereader will you recommend to me?
Thank you very much for your help

I probably shouldn't be the one saying it, but, of the dedicated e-ink ereaders, Kobo ereaders are the best for use with calibre. The reasons include:
  • Series support.
  • Collection management.
  • Plugin support for getting status from the device.
  • Annotations plugin support.
  • Metadata updating on the device.
  • Plenty of people here if you need help.

On the ereader, series info is treated well. Series info is displayed as a separate line in the book details and in book lists, the lists can be sorted by series and there is a separate series list. And searching for books includes the series name.

Thanks @davidfor

I'm not the OP, but that is a really helpful summary.

I have been trying to decide between the Kobo H2O and the new Paperwhite about to be released, and I was going to wait for the early adopter feedback on the new Kindle before making a decision.

The lack of series support for sideloaded books in Kindles is an annoyance for me.

Hi, I just read

"Kindles running firmware 5.13.4 now have the option to group books together that are in a series."
