Wifi Direct vs router
When I connect my iPad using Wifi Direct to my PC I can't connect to the Calibre server content however when I connect my iPad through my router I can. Is it possible to use wifi direct?

You might try creating the WiFi Direct connection and then starting calibre server so you know what address is being used so you can try connecting your iPad to that address. The only time I played with WiFi Direct, the address changed every time I connected which was a bit of a PITA.
