New slower version
Is it just me, or is the new version (5.26) not way slower that 5.25?

Must be you. On a cold start calibre booted up in 1.86 seconds with 3447 books and in 1.51 seconds on a restart.

Those numbers are what I have been seeing.

I haven't noticed any slowness (aside from the initial launch, but I'm running from source so that's a different case entirely).

There are no changes between 5.25 and 5.26 that could possibly affect performance. Most likely some program on your computer is interfering, probably, an antivirus.

I have just seen it when changing metadata on books. That could be changing the format the author has been typed. I have not changed any antivirus program in the change from version 5.25 to 5.26.

When you change either Author or Title, the filesystem becomes involved as Calibre must update FOLDERS within the Library structure.

Kovid has stated nothing has changed about that code.
OTOH you A/V updates very frequently (if connected to the Internet) behind the scenes.
