iPad device not detected
Hi -
I can't get the software to detect my iPad in Windows 10. I've followed all instructions / suggestions: 1. I have turned on both content server and wireless connection 2. The content server works both on my PC browser and my iPad browser (Chrome for both) 3. I am using the latest calibre version 4. I only have one device connected 5. There are no ignored devices, the plugin is enabled. 6. debug output below. Help, please, and thank you! Spoiler:

Due to Apple's paranoia, calibre is not longer able to connect to an iDevice over USB. Check the My device is not being detected by calibre? item in the calibre FAQs. Use the content server to connect and download using your favourite web browser on the iPad.

Hi David,
Thank you for responding. Can you please explain what you mean by downloading via my iPad browser? I was able to connect to the iPad browser via the server address, but I didn't see a way to connect that to my iPad kindle reader. I did try everything else (Every step of the relevant item on FAQ and in Kovid's pinned post). I have both the content server and the wireless connection options running. Nothing has worked. That's why I included the debug output. I just don't know what else to do. This looks like such a fantastic tool and I really want to be able to use it :-( Last edited by iprintz; 08-15-2021 at 08:48 PM. |

If you are using an iPad then is there any reason for not using ePub files in conjunction with iBooks? Safari on an iPad will allow you to transfer downloaded epub files into iBooks.

Hi -
All of my books are on the kindle app on the iPad (It's where Amazon sends them automatically). Are you saying I should transfer my kindle books to iBooks (not sure how to do that)? Also, if calibre doesn't recognize the iPad as a device then I don't understand how transferring my ebooks to iBooks makes a difference in this? (Sorry, I am usually ok with every day computer stuff, but this is way above my pay grade. I really appreciate the help!) |

The iPad Books app is dismal compared to the Kindle app.

If your books are already on the iPad in the Kindle app, you can't transfer them to iBooks since iBooks does not read Amazon's proprietary formats. This still leaves the question of what you are trying to do? Transfer your Amazon books from your iPad to calibre? That is not going to work since your iPad will not allow that action. You could install Kindle for PC or Kindle for Mac on your computer (assuming it's operating system is Windows or OSX), download the books to your PC and then transfer them to calibre. See the Dealing with Kindle for PC/Mac 1.19 and KFX in calibre thread for some help on that process. You will also need the DeDRM plugin so check Apprentice Alf’s Blog for help with that plugin. As an alternative, you could use calibre to email to your iPad's Kindle email address. Google is helpful there. |

Hi David,
Got it. Yes, I was trying to transfer from my iPad to calibre. Good to know it isn't possible, so I can stop trying. Thanks. Irit |
