OverDrive on Kobo: Any Way to Filter Genres/Recents?

I must be missing something regarding using OverDrive on my Kobo Forma. I can get it to show my Holds, so borrowing an already found book is no problem. But, I can't seem to find any way to find OverDrive books of a particular genre that are new (perhaps a week) to the library. I guess I'm used to browsing my library's new books of the genres I'm interested in on Libby.

On my Forma, if I go to Discover > OverDrive, I see "Your Holds," "Just Added eBooks" (which appears to be all ebooks added to OverDrive in all genres in all languages), and a long list of pre-defined collections (18 of them) that aren't of any interest to me. If I go to Search, I can limit the search to just OverDrive, but I can't filter the results to, again, my genres and new books. As far as I can see, I really have to do my book selecting on my PC/Library/Libby. Is there some other way?

I assume the lack of response means nobody has found a way to do what you are looking for.

I use my smartphone or PC to search for books.

To the best of my knowledge there is not a way to do it. Personally, I don't find browsing the store on the device very good. I only use it when I know exactly what I want. And that usually means grabbing something that is on my wishlist. Which are mostly the next books in various series I am reading.

My Clara doesn’t show that front end for Overdrlve anymore. I’m not sure why. However, I may have found a way to do what you want.

Tap on the magnifying glass as you did before, and select “Overdrive” from the drop down menu on the right. Now type in the genre you want into the search field. From here you can filter by “Release Date” or “Newly Added”. I don’t know how accurate this is compared to the desktop version of the site, but this is the best we can do atm. Good luck!

Thanks. That helps a bit. I should have thought of putting the genre in the search bar there.

When I started researching Kobos, I was all excited about having OverDrive on it. At the time, I didn't realize there was a difference between Libby at the library's site and just plain OverDrive on the Forma. Oh, well.

I have to admit that when I want ebooks, I tend to whip out Libby on my iPhone. She's a reliable and efficient gal. However, I do use the Kobo store late at night when I've avoiding the blue light from my iDevices. It's nice to know how to get around it. I wish Kobo would revamp their Overdrive search better. Searching by genre, showing only available ebooks, etc. would make the experience more useful.

Yeah, the Kobo overdrive search is OK if you are looking for a specific book, but it's not good for browsing for something new. Who wants to browse through all those unavailable books hoping to find one that is actually available now?
