Indexing Speed on Kindle Oasis 3

After my Oasis 3 deciding to index all 1500 books on the device for no reason last week, I rest the device and then added around 600 books on Wednesday. Obviously this is a lot in one go, so blame my impatience for that. Having read around on here it seems that usually, indexing shouldn't take this long. If it does, it's usually due to either big ebook files, or indexing has got stuck. This doesn't seem to be the case. The indexing number is going down, but really slowly. It's currently just over 400. I was wondering whether it would speed up if I plugged the Oasis into a wall charger? At the moment I plug it into my Macbook but that doesn't seem to help much

Yes, it will speed up considerably when plugged into a wall charger.

I tried removing the Search Indexes folder from the root of my Oasis 3, to try and disable the indexing because I don't need the search function. I replaced it with a text file of the same name as instructed, but it doesn't seem to have done anything and the device is still indexing books. I'm just wondering what I've done wrong.

Sometimes mine takes a long time too, even in a wall charger. I've had it indexing for up to a month before with less than 10 books for some reason. It seems to confuse it when I plug into my computer. It starts reloading a few sideloaded books, even with Calibre turned off. I don't plug into the computer much but have noticed this because it will mess with my library settings.

I am not sure why yours started reindexing so many books, though. What a pain.

I am not sure why yours started reindexing so many books, though. What a pain.

Mine has never taken longer than a day or two, even when I've dumped more than a hundred books on it in one go. And I have about 3000 books on it.

But then, all my books are manually edited and unused code deleted from the css. Possibly that's what solved my indexing issues.

I dunno. I threw everything I owned onto mine in one go (painful because of the sodding Cloud Collections getting half the collection ownership wrong) and left it plugged in. Everything was indexed in less than six hours (including the huge collections of all of Dickens and the complete Sherlock Holmes I have yet to actually *read*, plus the even more insanely large megafanfic _Worm_: put just those three together and that's a lot of text, even before the 2000-odd other books).
