Angry Why does Boox have no CUT-and-paste in file manager or notes?

What is the joke with this?

Why is Boox perhaps the ONLY major software ON EARTH without CUT?
Are we still in the early 90s?

You can't CUT in:
* In its file managers:
- in NOTES
- in its book file manager in the 'Directory mode' - which is one of the two modes
* Within its note program: i.e inking or text cannot be cut-and-paste

You have to COPY, PASTE and then DELETE.

This is truly atrocious:
1. It is laborious
2. It can lead to mistakes and disorganisation:
a) you forget to delete afterwards
b) worse: you delete the wrong thing.

As an ACTUAL productivity device, it's NOT productive with this - it's PAINFUL!

Come on Boox - please fix this embarrassment !

No cut is the 90s. A lot of software has been removing it from their file manager. There is no cut option in MacOS Finder these days, there's no cut in the Samsung file manager either. They did it because a lot of people would cut files, forget they are on the clipboard and then put something else on the clipboard resulting in files gone to the ether. The new trend is to remove cut.

At least in firmware 3.1 cut is available on my Nova 2. Anyways you're better off leaving feedback with Oynx and not here and perhaps with a lighter tone.

This is hilarious. Just like in Windows and many other apps:
1. The item doesn't have to disappear
2. If the paste isn't carried through, the item just stays where it is.
This is a no-brainer.

Feel free to provide the evidence
What precise apps?
What actions in those apps?

I haven't seen lack of cut in one app since Macs in the 90s.
They also had the idiotic situation that you could copy a folder onto another folder with the same name and replace 10,000 files with 1 file.
(Whereas Windows would deal with each file within the folder individually, and ask you).
Not exactly proof of intelligent UI.

Okay next time you have to cut something out of a piece of paper, I demand you don't do that.

I demand you take a photocopy of it, and then cut it out of that piece of paper. |

When cutting out a piece of cake, you must first make a duplicate cake.
Then cut a piece of THAT cake, just in case you disturb the original.

Oh, and please: when you're using a spreadsheet, you must copy the figure, paste it, and delete the first figure.

I refer you again to point 2 in my originating post:
The copy-paste-delete method actually creates MORE risk of losing data or leaving behind unwanted data.

This is your point of view and I'm sure you can develop software that support cut & paste. As others told you, Apple introduce a "cut" in finder only recently and with some limitations, so not everyone thinks like you. However, no one prevents you from installing an alternative file management app to that of Onyx and from using an app for scratches from the android world that have the cut.
To be honest, among the many requests for change and improvement that can be made to onyx, this is certainly marginal. The tone of sufficiency used in the thread is then so adolescent that it does not need comment.

This defence of this gives me the opportunity to point out that many Android apps in the current Boox Air 2 (Android 11) that provide writing via 'inking' work badly. The drawing is substandard.

Even for some ebook readers it's hard to read the menus.

As for the universality of cut, I direct you to any browser in the world, and to the entire dominant Windows system. I honestly don't remember Mac having no cut after the mid-90s.

On the Boox you CANNOT cut and paste a notepad or within a notepad (i.e inking, text or shapes).

So that's at least half the Boox use case.

In DIRECTORY mode in the main book 'file explorer' you can ONLY copy.
So that's half of the other half of the Boox use case.

You can argue that cut is not necessary all you like.

Those who see this post who:
- are used to having cut and would see it as ridiculous Boox doesn't have it in most things
- find it inconvenient and potentially chaos-creating not to have it
(...and I honestly feel that's the majority of users worldwide.)
will still see this post.

Your defence will not hold water for those people.

Therefore if Boox has any sense of what customers want they will then fix this.

BTW: Mac does have cut-and-paste (since 2012) and anyway has had the equivalent drag-and-drop since the start

Clearly if they didn't have it before, and then they introduced it, they must have thought it was necessary and that users would appreciate it.

Article announcing 'the news':

[/I]"The Mac now has the highly desirable “Cut and Paste” file feature throughout the Mac OS X desktop and Finder, allowing users to truly cut and paste to move the selected documents or folders to a new location, rather than just making a copy of them. In this sense, the cut & paste ability behaves much like the Windows explorer counterpart, and it represents a fast and efficient way to move and relocate files from one location to another location, without using the standard drag & drop approach that has been standard on the Mac since the origins of the OS."

Meanwhile some complaints about the LACK of cut from a few users, on that very "news" that Apple finally introduced 'cut' (in 2012!)...

'The God is Crazy':
"Unbelievable. I just bought my first Mac a week ago. I’ve used computers since the 80s, and I read today about this “the long-awaited feature” called cut and paste? ???????? SERIOUSLY? I have to wait all these years for this to happen? Remember this you Mac users, “10 fingers are faster than one mouse, any day”. Learn to use a keyboard like the rest of the world. Feel that pain in your shoulder? That’s because you’re dependent on using a mouse."

Jack:
"The Mac OS sucks for file management, if you’re computer literate. Lack of “cut” is just the beginning. And yes, I have learned all the keystrokes, know how to drag and drop and all the bells and whistles. I finally bought a Mac couple of weeks ago, and have been doing nothing but learn how stupid this OS is, and how Apple has forced you into doing things their way. Also astonishing is how uninformed MAC users are about Windows. They’re like a cult group who have been fed myths and superstitions about another tribe. "

Verboze:
"While this feature may be wasted on the average mac user who has trouble grasping the notion of cutting & pasting a file, you will find that power users will welcome this (more so than Mom and Dad). As someone who does things MUCH faster with a keyboard, I find the notion of having to open multiple windows and drag files around a bit limiting"

Cee202:
"best advice ever post on this or any other website."

...I'll stop there!

In response, I give you....Robert Maroon:

"@Andy I agree. As a matter of fact there is no mention of “cut” because otherwise the various mentally challenged users would think that the files are held in a limbo till the paste operation.

As you can see in various at forums, many users claim that “cut&paste” is going to destroy data in case a power loss happens between the cut and paste operation.

Strangely enough my 55 years old father knows better and understands the principle that a forced move (holding command) performs exactly as a cut&paste, without the semantic burdens."

V3.2 removes the cutting file feature in storage to avoid unrecognizable embedded data.
Scribbling data in v3.2 are connected with path of pdf file. Before it was pdf meta data id. It is logical to remove the cut feature. Average users don't take care of it and would blame Onyx for lost scribbling.

Okay. I'm probably on 3.1. They say they'll bring it back in the next FW. I tend to hold back upgrading FW.
