Calibre 5.1.0. Error communicating with device

Oct 8 update: Problem is resolved.

I was able to add books to my Kobo Forma just yesterday. But today, when I connect my Kobo Forma, Calibre successfully syncs page locations for the books but then abruptly disconnects the device. This means I can't add books to the device.

Here's the error message:
Quote:

Some Calibre plugins broke on the update to 5.1.0. If you don't want to downgrade back to 5.0.1 (which is what I did for now), I think there's a working test version of the Kobo Touch Extended Drivers in the plugins forum.

I'd also check Reading List for a test version because I think sync_booklists might be that.

Hi cats,
I looked at "What's New" with version 5.1.

.

I don't think I need/use the new features. And it appears the bugs are not something that affect me. So I'm gonna downgrade to 5.0.1. What's the recommended way to do this on Linux Mint?

Update: I suppose I can wait for the bugs in 5.1 to be fixed. I mean, I have enough books on my device to read. I don't need to sync any books for now. I can wait for Calibre version 5.2 or for the plugins to be fixed.

I'm afraid I'm not sure how to downgrade on Linux. On Windows I just uninstalled Calibre (which left behind the settings folder) and then reinstalled 5.0.1 again.

The problem with plugins in calibre 5.1.0 is only happening in Windows. It is related to how the plugins are imported. And it has been fixed in a calibre beta.

That error is more likely to be because the device has been disconnected. Or otherwise is not available for calibre to connect to. And it definitely has nothing to do with the Reading List plugin.

When this happened, were you able to access the device afterwards? Could you see it in the OS?

No, when my device is abruptly disconnected, I can't see it at all on my OS.

I tried connecting my Kobo Forma to my Calibre laptop. Happily, my device no longer abruptly disconnects.
