Firmware udpate resets everything
HI
I am new to modding. I have a clara hd and wanted some guidance on how to stop firmware updates from removing koreader. I am using this guide to install koreader but everytime a firmware update comes my whole setup disapears. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=314220 Another question i have is the patching threads in the developer corner like the one below . what do they patch exactly how are they useful? https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=332469 |

If you mean that you need to reinstall KOReader after a firmware update, then that is expected and probably unavoidable.
If you mean that your Kobo setup is reset and you need to login to you Kobo account again, then that is different. It shouldn't be happening, and it doesn't happen here. I am fairly sure that it means something else is wrong. For example, it could be a sign that the database on the device was badly corrupt. Then, when the device was rebooted as part of the update, the database could not be read and the setup gets triggered. There are probably other circumstances where this could happen, but, that's the simplest. As to the patches, the usefulness is up to you. I don't use them. But, there are people who will not update the firmware until all the patches are done. You need to look at them and decide for yourself. |

@readerBig: The "whole setup" doesn't actually disappear, unless something is going seriously screwy, as @davidfor explained
![]() (i.e., you'll at least have to reinstall KFMon after an update. The rest of the OCP tools (NM & KOReader/Plato) do survive). Last edited by NiLuJe; 09-01-2020 at 05:32 AM. |

Thanks for the help. Couple more questions.
What does OCP tools stand for and what is NM? Is there way to stop firmware update until I want to manually do it? Is there a way to back up koreader setting just in case both get remove again? Really appreacite the help davidfor and NiLuJe. |

By which I mean whatever the OCP installs to handle launching stuff (i.e., KFMon & NM [NickelMenu]), plus whatever you asked for (i.e., KOReader/Plato).

A factory reset, on the other hand, will. But to answer the question, yes, basically backup the settings folder and the reader.settings.lua file in the koreader folder. There are more detailed answers in the KOReader forum. A quick'n dirty way to make sure you get everything is simply to backup the full koreader folder and call it a day. |

What @NiLuJe means by OCP is one-click packages. Pretty useful

And NM is NickelMenu. See the NickelMenu: An integrated launcher for Kobo eReaders thread for more information.
