Sideload, or own both Kobo and Kindle ??
Hey all, looking for some insight. I know sideloading is easy to do, but ive been wondering lately if its worth my time and money to just go ahead and purchase a paperwhite. Ive been an avid Kobo user since forver, this would be my gorst Kindle.
Was just wondering how many people own both units and dont worry about using calibre and side loading. Im actually also curious to see what a paperwhite screen looks like ever since getting my Clara HD with a crappy screen. I usually only buy from kobo and amazon. Its sounding quite convenient to just be able to download books yo that respective brands reader and not have to fire up my laptop. |

I own both, but I sideload from Calibre exclusively, never download anything directly from any store. I want my library all in one place, with cleaned-up metadata, the layout and formatting of the books edited to my liking. I didn't get several different ereaders because I was interested in easier downloading, but from pure gadget lust.
If you don't want to bother with library keeping and having DRM-free back-ups of your purchases is not a priority either, then by all means get a Kindle in addition to your Kobo. If you're just feeling gadget lust, get a Kindle anyway. Both Kindles and Kobos are excellent readers. It never hurts having more of a good thing. ![]() |

Forgive my ignorance, but how do you exclusively sideload from caliber. Where do you get your ebooks from if not from kobo or amazon? Every other site ive been to for books never has what im looking for but these 2 always do.
I agree with the gadget lust haha I only have 2 right now, but id have 4 or 5 if i had it my way haha |

Amazon, Google Play, Kobo, Smashwords. In that order, mostly. But everything goes into Calibre first, not to the reader.

Now I buy mostly from Kobo because of Kobo super points and Kobo VIP. But until a recent past I bought also from Amazon and two independent Italian sellers.
I download the book with Wi Fii on the Kobo and if it is well formatted I simply read it but always get rid of DRM and download it in calibre. Otherwise I archive it from Kobo, change it and sideload on the Kobo (and on the Pocketbook). Pocketbook doesn't need to get rid of DRM, it takes also ACSM files, but after checked that it works I prefer anyway download on it books without DRM. |

For me, I turn off WiFi on all my readers. I buy all my books from Amazon and use a Kobo, so I have to sideload. But even if I used a Paperwhite, I would do the same.
