ipad safari: how to do get back to fullscreen?
When opening a book, the browser goes automatically to fullscreen (with the annoying X in the corner that often blocks book content and even the viewer toolbar. If I click X to leave fullscreen, how do I get back to it? So far, the only way is to close the book and click Read again. Why not add the same function in the view toolbar?

Are you using the Cloud Reader and reading an Amazon book? You've posted in the Calibre forum, but Calibre doesn't run on iPads.

I meant safari browser connected to the calibre server. Wasn't sure if I should post in the server section or the device section.

Because apple in their infinite wisdom, dont allow websites to request fullscreen. https://caniuse.com/#feat=fullscreen
Use an android device and you will have full screen toggle in the viewer controls. On iOS you need to use whatever facilities the OS provides for entering full screen. Since I dont touch apple products with a ten foot barge pole, I dont recall what those might be. |

IIRC that's because of some heuristics safari uses to decide when to fullscreen things, it's certainly not something calibre is requesting.

How about using a different browser?
I'll play with this later on my iPad and post back. |

In iOS 13, Once the book is open, use a two-finger tap. That brings up a pop-up menu for various options. Closing that menu brings up the regular browser view with the url bar etc.
To get back to full screen, tap the far left edge of the url bar where you see "Aa", then select 'Hide Toolbar" On an older version of iOS, simply swipe up to go to full screen or down to bring back the toolbar/url bar. . Last edited by Deskisamess; 07-22-2020 at 12:45 PM. |

Apple does not allow different browsers on iOS, they are all safari under the hood with different skins.

The fullscreen mode is not simply with the toolbar hidden. A hidden toolbar still leaves a banner on the top that shows status info like the time, battery, etc.
The fullscreen mode I see has an [X] in the upper left for leaving fullscreen, the status info bar background is now transparent (status info is still there but since it's white text, they are basically hidden when the book page is white but can be viewed when opening calibre's toolbar). |

A have a workaround from the ipad fullscreen mode's [x] blocking content: Preferences > Page Layout > Increase Top margin from 20 to 70. This will push content below the [x] button.
