Hi, I'm a Dutch retiree and use Calibre a long time to collect my ebook-collection. I am very pleased with this program and use it almost every day. My collection of Dutch ebook exceeds 45.000 books and I'm still going on adding new books almost every day.
I will pose a suggestion that possibly has been made before, but I did not look throught all messages. What I like to see as an option is a database for authors, where you can put some more detailed information about them. The only thing I can do now with your program is see my collection of ebooks, but nothing about the author himself. I often think when reading a book, who is the person that wrote this. It may be helpfull in understanding them. Do you think this is a possibiliy? Thank you for your program up till now. Regards, Rob de Louw info@robdelouw.nl |

from the main display: selecting a book then clicking on the author name in the right hand book details pane takes you to Goodreads for that information, if an entry exists.
If i hover over the author name , the tool tip says " search goodreads for the author: " that may be configurable if you want a different default search/ |

Well, this may be a bit low tech after all the fancy stuff! I make small books for author information, especially bibliographies, usually for authors with huge numbers of titles like Maxwell Grant. I can add my own notes, include bio data, whatever. I just store these with the author name, so I can get at them when looking at the book list. Usually I go to Wikipedia, copy what I want into Writer, then convert to epub (or just leave it as an odt in Calibre if I'm still changing it a lot).

I use the Author Link field in Manage Authors to open an Evernote record, see ==>> Calibre and Evernote
