My Collections gone in Kobo Aura H2O with new database

Due to a "CorruptError: database disk image is malformed" I had my Kobo Aura H2O build a new KoboReader.sqlite. Unfortunately now the "My Collections", created via Genre Column in Calibre is empty. Any ideas what to do? Can I copy parts of the old database to the new one to fix it?

If you have a backup of the database, you can copy the backup over the current database. But you then have to put all your eBook back on. Any eBooks in the database no on the device will be deleted from the device when you eject.

@hoyz,

Before you do any database or book restoring, have you tried just connecting the Kobo to calibre, letting calibre do its stuff then safely disconnecting?

It's calibre that does all the Collection stuff. If you have a new Kobo database you need to give calibre a chance to repopulate the database with Collections and Series info.

Sorry, I don't get that. What do you mean by copy the backup over the current database? If I replace the new database with the new one then I'll have the error again, right? I have kept all books on the device. Do I have to remove them all and put them back on the device?

If you use the Kobo Utilities plugin, you can have the database backed up every time you connect to your Calibre library. That you'll have a fairly recent backup. Also, if you create a custom yes/No column, you can use the Reading List plugin to keep track of what eBooks you have on your Kobo.

I have a backup of the database right before I created the new one. And I simply have all the epubs and none of the other formats organized in Calibre on my Kobo, so that's not a problem to know which books are on there.

When you connect the device, calibre should update the collections on the device. To do that, it requires the options to be set in the driver, and the metadata management option on the "Sending books to devices" page of the preferences to the set to the automatic option. The latter being wrong is a common reason for the collection management not to happen. You should check the configuration. There have been resetting of configurations with calibre updates. It shouldn't happen, but, it seems to. And, one it does happen, it is to late to work out why.

Another reason is changing between the KoboTouch and KoboTouchExtended drivers. While the options are the same, they are not shared. You need to configure them separately. And if you change between the drivers, you need to manually copy the options if you want them to be the same (though that is a good idea for my Kobo Utilities plugin).

The other thing is that the collection management is only done for books on the device that calibre has matched to books in the current library. The collection management will only be done if there book in the library has a green tick against it indicating it is on the device.

Thank you very much for your help. I tried everything but unfortunately it didn't work. A full reset was the only solution.
