Python "terminated unexpectedly" downloading Calibre 4
Just tried about three different times to install Calibre 4, 32- and 64-bit. Each time I get an error message that reads:
Python function terminated unexpectedly No module named QtWebKitWidgets (Error Code: 1) How can I fix this? |

You are installing it on what? I am guessing linux, which would probably mean some system library is missing/outdated, you can set LD_DEBUG=libs to get debug output about it.

Hi,
I get exact the same error message. I am using an old netbook with win7 and I am afraid it will not run with win10. Anyhow, it is setup with calibre 64bit 3.39.1 for debugging (msi and tar) and still run well. To test calibre 4 parallel, I download 32bit msi and install it (without adding tar file for debugging). Installation is done into a different folder and all looks good. When starting the icon, the error message appears. So maybe a mess with my debugging setup? Any detailed help is apprechiated as I am not a developer. |

If you are on a an old win7 machine and calibre 4 does not run I suggest you stay with calibre 3. The best you can try is updating the graphics drivers, but if that does not work, calibre 4 is not going to run on it.

Found the root cause. For those with same error message, this may help you.
As mentioned I install on old win 7 netbook version 3-64bit and 4-32bit in different folder. Also the related tar files are stored, as I like to do some investigation. As long as the environment variable CALIBRE_DEVELOP_FROM was not set, the icon start version 3 resp. 4 (only one could run). But when it was set to Calibre 3 src, start of calibre 4 show error message above. And the other way around. Knowing that, this is not an issue anymore for me. |
