Internet via USB (PC gateway) isnt acceptable with web browser in Kindle DXG

Go stuck in allowing the web-browser to NOT go thru 3g-radio.

I used this guide to be able to use the web-browser for more than amazons site (google is blocked in sweden via 3g).

Got everything to work thru terminal, with DNS and gateway:

[root@kindle root]# route add default gw 192.168.2.1
[root@kindle root]# ip route
192.168.2.0/24 dev usb0 src 192.168.2.2
default via 192.168.2.1 dev usb0

[root@kindle root]# ping www.google.se
PING www.google.se (109.105.109.234): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 109.105.109.234: seq=0 ttl=49 time=4.447 ms

But still nothing happens when trying web-browser in kindle.

I've tried both with 3g enabled and not activated.

I suspect this line will enable gateway via LAN (USB)

# vi /opt/amazon/ebook/config/framework.mario.conf
change the line:
USE_WAN : true
into:
USE_WAN : false

in 3.2.1 its called framework_luigi.conf (should be same?)

Still nothing.

- Could it still trying to go via proxy?

There's a tethering script in the USBNetwork package. It's untested as hell, but should give you some ideas, at least.

The cross-breed firmware, I think, includes its own kernel build.
You need to do two things :
Check that kernel's configuration (of the iptables section) ;
and
Check in the bastardized firmware image for the modules ;
(/lib/modules/kernel-version-string/sub-tree)

The firmware image needs to contain the modules from the **build of the executing kernel** - not those from some random kernel build.

The command:
uname -a
will give you the kernel version string, build number, and build date-time

modinfo full-path-and-file-name
will give you the similar information of a specific module.

Once you know which kernel is running
(The series 2.5, the series 3.x or a custom build)

Then you know which /lib/modules/ sub-tree to check

I still think you should re-install the stock 2.5.8 amazon firmware -
No reason to run the series 3.x firmware when you are using an add-in pdf reader.

As you posted, your only reason to run the series 3.x firmware was for the pdf handling, but now you are not using the series 3.x pdf handling.

Anyway I can stop this "turn on wifi" prompt? I got USB tethering work. Just need it do proceed. But everytime I denied the prompt, it will assume it has not internet connection and then cancel my request (go to store, register, using browser, etc)

I got a DXG with broken 3G module as well. So I want to use USB to let my DXG get on internet again. I also added default gateway so by now the DXG can ping to outside (e.g., google.com) without any problem. But if I want to run browser / visit amazone store / register (because I reset to factory before upgrade to 3.2.1), the system will ask me whether I want to turn on wifi (actually 3G to my case) as they thought wifi (3G) is the only way to get on internet for DXG. If I agree to turn on, since my 3G module was dead, nothing will happen. If I disagree, then it will immediate stop my action further.

Anyway I can stop this "turn on wifi" prompt? Thank you very much!
