What is the path to your current Calibre Library for which you are adding books? Drive C: or another HD drive letter? Or a network or cloud location (neither are supported by Calibre)?

Try disabling your Anti Virus software.
If that fixes it, put "C:\Users\User\Documents\Calibre Library" into the AV's exception list... or use another AV. BR |

Iirc, some versions of Windows now automatically include the Documents folder in OneDrive.

Dont have One Drive activated.
Have been using Windows Defender AntiVirus and surprisingly that must have been the problem, when I turned it off Calibre worked perfectly. I would have to guess that something in the latest Defender update must have caused the problem since it was working fine yesterday, thanks for the help, most appreciated. |

If that does not work then make a copy of your library then Right click the calibre icon in the calibre toolbar and select Library maintenance->Restore database. bernie |

Disabling Windows Defender did the trick, database can now be accessed as usual. By the way i tried Library Maintenance and it didn't fix the problem, disabling Windows Defender did though. |

When you say you 'turned it off", how did you do that - afaik it ain't easy to completely disable Defender. Perhaps you mean you turned off the Controlled Folder access feature? Documents is in the Controlled Folders list - but my libraries are not in my Documents folder. Attaching a screenshot of recent Defender updates BR |

Go to Windows Defender, Virus then Threat Protections Settings and turn off Real Time Protection.
Once doing this gave me access to the Library I added Calibre as an exclusion and the problem disappeared. I'm using the 64 bit version are you? |

I use windows defender X64, and it gives no problem. I do remember excluding the Library from the real time scan (everything in the Library come from another 'scanned' folder

I'm using the 64 bit W10 version ...I don't use OneDrive....and it was always like that ..
Is a last update of Windows that led to this ??? But..NO, because on my laptop ASUS (same version of W10) "Documents Calibre" is always at the same place (C:\Users\User\Documents\Calibre Library) and works well ... I think we will not be able to understand, why .... |
