Onyx USB-C capacities

Hi!

I am wondering about how many of the possibilities USB-C offers are working in the ONyx devices. I checked until de 4th page of this subforum and only found someone telling about he can plug an earphones there.

Anything else? I am specially interested in using it as a monitor connector with a USB-C---> HDMI/VGA/DVI
Which is the data transfer speed? LIke an USB 3.0?
Is the OTG working whith that connector? Keyboards, mouse, pendrive?
It really offers an improvements over the micro usb of older models?

Hope this change of connector is more than a fancy movement

Unfortunately, they essentially just seem to use the USB-C form factor and none of the features. Power delivery is not implemented, so you cannot charge from an actual USB-C charger (only a plain USB-A charger using a USB-A-to-C cable), so using the same cable to charge, eg, your laptop and your eReader is off the table.

I also tried with a USB-C monitor and as I expected there is no output for video.
I didn't try with a USB dongle via HDMI, but there's no reason to expect that that would work if an actual USB-C monitor doesn't get input.

I also tried accessing a USB stick via my USB-C dongle, which also does not work for me. At least on older onyx readers they had deactivated otg in the firmware for battery conservation reasons. I think there were people who tried workarounds for that, but I don't recall if they were successful or if anything similar would work in the newer devices.

So unfortunately it seems the use of USB-C on the device is largely cosmetic.

Oh, what I haven't tested yet was powering the USB hub in order to access the USB drive. Might give that a try in the evening, just read a comment elsewhere on the forum that seems to suggest that that might work. (Of course still seems a but unnecessarily cumbersome, don't know if an actual USB-C drive would work right away_

Very dissapointing, but very predictable.

I suppose all the functionallities of USB-C can be available modifiying the firmware. Just hope Onyx decided to not solder a specific cable to a connector and this cuts off all the possibilities USB-C have. Maybe in a couple of years Onyx starts to implement some of the funcionalities in their firmware....

It could be great to be able to use the connector to plug in a monitor and use the 8" and the 10" devices as a second monitor in a such easy way.

And, for sure, connect a pendrive there, regarding it doesn't have microSD. But... you know... It's Onyx...
