Kobo not detected over USB

I recently got a Kobo Aura One and I can't get the damn thing to connect to my computer (macbook, OSX High Sierra) over USB.

It did work once or twice at the beginning, but since then its never detected by my laptop. The Kobo shows the "computer detected" popup, I click "connect" and it shows "connected and charging". However, OSX cannot see it, Calibre cannot see it, it does not show up in System Information or Disk Utility.

My USB ports are fine. All other devices (bluetooth dongles, hard disks) work with the same USB ports. Tried two different working cables too.

I can't add any books to the frikkin thing without USB.. anyone know how to fix?

(To add insult to injury, it doesn't detect my 5Ghz Wifi, it detects but cannot connect to the 2.4 Ghz Wifi. So I have no way of connecting it to my computer.)

Did You try to connect to another computer? Just to know if Kobo works elsewhere. Another chance is to buy a new cable, of good quality, and try with it. There is a post in this forum that indicates that a shiny new cable solved it.
If nothing works the guilty is Your Kobo.

I managed to get it working.

1. I got a replacement Kobo

2. You have to run the Kobo Desktop App to have it be detected!

If i don't run the app, it won't show up in my Finder window etc. So it seems that was the problem. With the app, it seems to work everytime, shows up in Finder and Calibre detects it no problem

Now to figure out why it won't connect to my wifi

For connection to Mac, have you ever tried anything suggested in this post

With my previous Aura One SMC reset worked sometimes.
