I have sent you a PM with a link to the image. But...
What do you mean by "won't restore"? What have you tried and what is happening? If you can manage a factory reset using the buttons, that is better than opening it. |

Thank you for the link, i'm downloading it now. I tried the factory reset of holding the light button and turning it on, it starts the restore, but just freezes half way through the restore. I'm thinking it's a corrupted image so I want to try a clean image and see if that fixes it.

It could also be a failing SD card. Getting a new one might be a good idea. And you can put a larger card in to increase the storage.

Are you really sure it's really frozen?
I did a factory reset on a Glo a few weeks ago (I was forced to by the device, I had no other option). And it took a very, very long time to install. It really looked frozen but got back to normal. It was actually reset to one of the earliest firmware versions. I was on holiday and had only access to unstable wifi, so opted not to upgrade the firmware. I then inserted the sd-card again with comics on it, it took the Glo 28 hours (!!!) to digest the comics. After that it functioned again. |

Hello,
My Kobo Glo crashes regularly, I want to go back to the originally installed firmware (it worked fast and fine with the old firmware), how can I do that? Thanks |

From Home Screen upper right corner, touch the 3 line icon. Box pops up touch the settings button. In settings menu touch Device Information. Near bottom of Device information page is Reset Device with Factory Reset button. This will return your reader to original firmware your reader had when it was out of box new and delete all books you loaded onto the reader.

And when prompted to do the setup, choose to do it via the PC. Connect to the PC and use the Kobo desktop application do do the setup but DO NOT eject. Then, go to the disk for the device, open the ".kobo" directory and remove the files "KoboRoot.tgz" and "manifest.md5sum" and the directory "upgrades". After that, you can eject. And as filmo said, you will be running the factory firmware.
But, unless you did the above when you first got the device, you have never used this firmware. When you set up a Kobo device, the latest firmware is automatically downloaded to it. What version is downloaded depends on when you first set the device up. And of course, if you sync to the Kobo server after that, new versions will be downloaded and installed. |

OK thanks, I will do that. I first used my Kobo about 2 years ago. Then updated the firmware a couple of months ago and since then regular crashes and much slower response.
Thanks for the guidance. |

It is possible the crashes are not directly due to the updated firmware. It might be an incomplete update or a problem in the database or file system. The factory reset will clear all this and there is a very good chance that updating to the latest firmware will work with no problems.

Kobo Glo HD
The software on my girlfriends Kobo Glo HD N437 has decided to take a hike. Unit powers on but nothing shows on the screen at all. Unit first started locking up on her and she did a factory reset on the advice of the Kobo 'helpdesk'. Once the factory reset was done the unit attempted a download and then went blank and we have been unable to get anything to work since. I am guessing that the image has become corrupt. Does anybody know where I can get a copy of this image so that I can install it again. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
