Calibre seems to have stopped automatically downloading ASIN in IDS, how to fix?

Hello, my calibre seems to no longer download the ASIN in the IDS, which I need to get the Kindle Hi-Res Covers plugin to work properly.

It does download the "amazon:" IDS info but that doesn't seem to be the same as the ASIN, and the plugin only works with the ASIN.

I have gone to the page for certain books on amazon and gotten the ASIN from the browser address, and plugged it in manually, and that works. Most of the time it seems this does not match the "amazon:".

Can anyone help me troubleshoot this to get Calibre to download it automatically again so I don't have to do that? Thanks.

This post belongs in the Plugin forum in the Kindle (Amazon) High-res Covers thread. That's the plugin that download the covers from Amazon.

Are you sure? This is more about getting the ASIN to download, which is a separate thing from the Kindle Hi Res plugin - it just so happens that it's also needed for the plug in. It's a Calibre issue IMO, as the plug-in is working fine when there's an ASIN available.

It is a Metadata SOURCE (and user) issue
I stuck user in there because YOU want more (nothing wrong with that, but you need to do more to get mo better returns)
Preferences: Metadata download: (coupled with Get (user supplied) Plugins)
On the right is the Master of fields to collect
But At the bottom on the left is a button
This is used to Cherry pick from available sources (above) << get plugins is how you add additional sources.
When you select a source: click the button, you get to choose what that source will supply.
That is your prefs. (you will need to experiment of preview the site in a browser, to decide)

Thank you - but this is how I've always done it, so it was all set up like that already. It had been getting the ASIN info previously as a result, and all of the other metadata exactly how I liked. It's only the last month that it no longer gets the *kindle* ASIN info (it will sometimes put in the ASIN for another version), and I have not messed with the settings since it last did. So... what do I do now? lol

Here is the metadata on an example book that it gave me, when it DOES give me an ASIN, it gives me the ASIN for other formats, not the kindle version, which for this example book should be "B01A5VQUDE" not "0316298700".

What I am trying to do is figure out how to fix it so that it chooses the kindle version's asin, like it did previously. Usually it was "asin:B1234567" or whatever, and it was the kindle version. Now, if it pulls from amazon, it's "amazon:1234567" and puts hardcover or paperback numbers.

There is no guarantee that calibre will get any particular type of book which type it gets depends on what the underlying search engine returns. Make sure you have Prefer Kindle edition checked in the amazon plugin preferences.

The plugin to download high-resolution covers from Amazon used to work some of the time without having the asin.

It seems I was just getting super lucky up until a month ago with Calibre pulling the kindle versions of the asin, and mistook that as a feature. Thanks anyway, folks.
