onyx T68 ext sd card issues
I'm looking for some advice from people that say they have no issues with their ext sd card readers.
Whenever I insert a card in the T68 and it has books of any kind on it, it first prepares the sd card/ checks for errors. This may take from 2 minutes to well over an hour. During this time everything on the T68 is a little slower. Soon after this process is done the (Library?), or (O Reader?), or (Onyx Launcher?) or (?) starts "indexing books". During this time the T68 is so slow it’s useless. After this process finishes several hours later the T68 works but is still sluggish. I have tried every possible combination under the preferences menu. Only scan "books" folder on internal storage, on sd Card, open last read document, either homepage preferences (show recently read or new added books. Nothing seems to make any difference. When I add an sd card without any books on it the discover/prepare card is so fast I sometimes miss it. The system isn't slowed down at all so it’s only when books are on the card. The books were not in "books" but in "Calibre Library" or in "test" folders. Another maybe related issue is un-mounting the sd card. It doesn't seem to work if there are books on it. It'll be in process for over an hour before I decide to shut it off and remove it, or when its asleep. Then it'll send an alert that I should unmount card prior to removing. What allocation size works best for Fat32, Is there another setting somewhere? If I delete O Reader will that stop this? If I disable Onyx Launcher will the light still work? On that anybody figure out a way to extract the light app out of onyx launcher yet? I know that holding down the round button toggles it on and off but adjusting the level would be nice too without going to the Onyx launcher. I'm running 4.0.4 update 2015-01-10_19-50_1.6.3_675c088 I'm rooted, using Nova Launcher with mapped button for Onyx Launcher, removed Phone and Telephony so now the battery lasts like it should. Pretty much all the tweaking I've done so far. Any suggestions? |

Did you tested with another microSD card with books? I had some issues woth C67ML (similar to afterglow 2) with ext card because that sd was corrupted. I was able to read ebooks but not to install external APKs from it. Changed the microSD and everything was smooth.

Yes, at least 5 different sd cards, but 4 of them are same type (Samsung 32 EVO). Some just using the native format some formatted via Win 7 laptop.

Does anyone know how to prevent "indexing books" or the app responsible for it?

I buy a device with an external sd card reader just so I can have a larger library with me but if that card has books on it, it renders the device useless. It’s a bit of a conundrum… there’s a hole in the bucket.

I've tested again with a different sd card. .mobi books in a test folder and again just naked on the card. no difference. I also tested this card again with and without checking the show new added books box. No difference. I'm not tech-savvy but my guess is that while clicking on the user preference buttons toggles on and off on the screen it doesn't take effect in actual settings. This may be just for the January 10th update or something unique to my device. But I'm done with it. I've gave it way more time than I should have had to and have already submitted the request to return to Amazon.

In fact, it will take me about 30s to become click the app or books. I think the design of loading SD should be improved. |

same issue
I have the same exact problem! it started doing this few months ago, so my guess is that an update might be responsible.
Did you or anyone solve this problem? |

I had similar problem with my Onyx Prometheus sd card - I have ~26GB of files on it and it took ~5 mins to boot and check the files. It also took forever to connect to PC and disconnect from it.
I've found the solution here. You should decide for yourself wether you do it or not, but in my case it solved the problem Basically: 1. Root the device (KingRoot would do it in 5 minutes). 2. Install any file manager with root priviledges (I used FX + root addon). 3. Go to system/bin folder and rename the file fsck_msdos. I just put zero in the beginning. 4. If you don't need the root, uninstall the KingRoot. But I'd keep it to install useful stuff like Button Savior. 5. Reboot your Onyx. Last edited by Uguptu; 02-27-2018 at 10:08 AM. |
