Whispersync for Voice enablement: does it show up after release?

I like Immersion Reading for some books (synchronized text and audiobook). Ebooks with this option show ‘Audible book: Available’ with a little icon indicating that Whispersync for Voice is available in the description.

I generally don’t pre-order or buy books close to their release date, or am patient enough to waitlist it at the library, but there are exceptions, and I’m considering doing this now. But the title is not currently set up for W4V. So I’m trying to decide whether to get started with one format and possibly add the other later.

Is it typical for W4V to be there on release date, or does it often happen that it shows up a little later on? Are there cases where best sellers never get this feature? I don’t read many best sellers or when I do it is months or years following release, so W4V is a known property by then.

I don’t know what goes into setting up W4V, but I can imagine it is not entirely automated, and there may be some time lag between Amazon getting content for both audiobook and ebook from respective publishers and doing the necessary.

Hi tomsen, it apparently usually takes about 4 weeks for the whispersync version of the audiobook to be generated. It can take a little longer than that if they have any issues.

I am waiting on the latest Liaden book Neurogenesis to be whispersynced (early February all going well) so I had cause to look this info up on Amazon/Audible yesterday.

Sometimes books are never Whispersync’d, it’s pretty much a guessing game as to what will and when. I’ve been waiting for a few books for months now. The first one in a trillogy is whispersync’d but the other two aren’t.

I read Dean Koontz The Whispering Room the second it was released. It had no Audio yet so I am guessing it will be a few weeks

Yes, the Outlander series still has some not W4V-ed though that has all been out for a long time. Sort of puzzling.

That's discouraging. I'm looking at a series that has books 1, 2, and 5 Whispersync'd, but not 3 and 4

Not sure what to do. Keep waiting for 3 and 4? Get an Audible subscription for the missing books? Skip the Audible subscription and pay the higher non-member price? Of course, the last two options miss the Whispersync feature.

What would you all do in this situation?

I've been on a Dean Koontz reading binge. Our library has a lot of his titles available and I've enjoyed (most) that I've read. I put both The Silent Corner and The Whispering Room on hold on December 12th and am just about there on both of them (#4 of 5 on Silent Corner and #2 of 3 on Whispering Room). I guess the next in this series is expected in May. If I like the first and second one I'll try to get my hold in early on the next (Crooked Staircase).

The book I was interested in is now W4V enabled. So it took less than a week in this case.
