~ €250 Reader: good highlighting & annotation
Hey. I'm looking for an ereader, hoping your expertise could help me choose. Been using an Kobo Aura H20 (2014), which I generally like - but it's slowness and lack of precision when highlighting text are very frustrating.
Major points: - wide possibility of data formats (especially *.pdfs) - good highlighting (and if possible annotation) functionality - easy exportability of highlights & annotations Size: 6.8 to 10 inch Else: - no Amazon devices Any advice? Thanks! (I'm having a Surface Pro which gets used occassionally, but I'm looking for a more battery concious alternative) |

For PDF, forget an eInk Reader. Get an iPad or stick with your Surface Pro.
For the rest, I recommend a Kobo Aura H2O 2nd Edition. It's bout €180. You don't have to buy from Kobo, but here is the description and specs. https://uk.kobobooks.com/products/ko..._medium=TopNav |

Agreeing with Jon, for PDF your best bet is your Surface Pro.

An Onyx ereader reads pdf very well.It annotates well.too, though I think its like scribbling rather then text selection. Ask on the Onyx sub-forum and look on youtube. 250 will get you one easy. I read pdf on a 6.8" in landscape. Works well. but get biggest and newest model you can. screen size and processor help

The differences are you get IPX8 waterproofing, the comfort light pro (orange light), and 8GB of storage but it does not have an internal microSD card nor a microSD card slot. Similar processor to the H2O, a little smaller and lighter.

He would probably be happy with an Oasis - it does everything he wants, but he has the requirement that it cannot be from Amazon. |

He might want to look at the Tolino epos (€249.00 at thalia.de). Android based though so heavily skinned you can't get to Android. Highlighting works quite well in my limited use. 7.8", 300DPI, smartLight (variable colour temperature with optional automatic shift depending on time of day). The performance of highlighting with Kobo depends on the firmware. I find that the current firmware does a pretty good job with highlighting ePub. I don't really read kepub so cannot say how that is on the current firmware.

No, that is a bad habit in the USA to show prices before tax. Germany (and I believe the rest of the EU) is required to post prices including tax online and in B&M stores. Both prices in amazon.de and amazon.fr mentioned that it included tax.
