Unhappy Problem with Open Library and ADE

Hi,

I am borrowing books from Open Library and downloading the acsm file and opening in ADE 2.0.1.7865 and it downloads the PDF file.

ADE reads the book fine in PDF. All pages are there.

I then add the PDF book to my calibre and the book only has 2 pages. I am up to date on calibre and the drm tools.

Can anyone help me with this please?

Probably because that is all of the book that is DRM free
Help Removing DRM from lending library books is prohibited here at MR

Thank you. I did not realize that. How come they are discussing how to DRM the Kindle books at this thread: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=283371

Not trying to be an irritant but really curious. What is the difference?

Isn't that kind of ironic that it isn't allowed here? What does this site think you are going to do with the DRM tools they allow links to?

I just wanted to read them on my Kindle and they only had epub version so I could only read in the browser window or ADE.

The Difference, is they are LIBRARY BOOKS, that you do not own.

They aren't asking for help with removing DRM from library books? It could be argued that they are not discussing removing DRM but rather how to keep their Kindle downloaded books in a format that can have the DRM removed so they can be imported into Calibre. Hairsplitting at it's finest.

I use them to remove DRM from books I own which gives me the nice feeling that I am not going to end up with a useless collection of files when the DRM servers are shut down. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. Those books are for my personal use only.

I do not remove DRM from library books since the chances of Adobe shutting down their DRM servers before I finish a book are pretty slim. In my not so humble opinion, keeping a copy of a library book after the loan period expires is simply theft.

Again they are library books. You DO NOT own them.

To quote from Apprentice Alf's blog:

I can’t get the tools to work on my rented or library ebooks.

Support for removing DRM from rented or library ebooks is not provided.

I believe that it is more than hairsplitting. For books that are intended by the publisher to have DRM, avoiding KFX can be used to access them in formats suitable for DRM removal. But that is only one factor.

Publishers can choose to have their books sold on Amazon without DRM and many do so. Books delivered by Amazon in KFX format always have DRM despite the publisher's choice. Avoiding KFX allows access to books that are being sold as DRM-free in a usable format without DRM as the publisher intended.

Well I didn't plan to KEEP them. I just wanted to read them on my 6 hour driving trip. I don't keep books unless I paid for them since I don't re-read them. And I only keep the ones I paid for since they are on my Kindle. It would only be theft if I kept them or shared them. Neither of which I planned to do.

And if you think that people who take the DRM off their Kindle books don't share with others you are delusional. I would say 80% of the people that take the DRM off share them in some way and that is also against the law.

I also don't agree with the limitations of digital books. When I was younger I used to have tons of paperbacks. I could give them to a friend, my library or sell at a yard sale. Now with digital books you can't do any of that. The prices of digital books are sometimes the same price you would pay for an actual paper book. Yet you can do less with them.

And I wouldn't be asking about the DRM if they had them in Kindle format. Who wants to read on your computer or in a browser window?

Do you have a smartphone or tablet? If so, you can read the books on that. If you don't want to do that, and e-ink is important, then get a cheap e-ink reader that can read epub.
