Bad USB connection Kobo Touch 905B

The USB connector is breaking down (I guess)
Connecting to computer I have to connect and disconnect several times my cable to my Touch before he connects, charging goes well.

Now I'm thinking of moving my books to an microSD card, that way I can managed it with Calibre and a card reader.

Now my question, what is the best way to do this.
Delete all books manual or a factory reset?
