Recreate opf files

Hi.

I just noticed that a bunch of my books had no opf files.

Is there any way to create them?

It's fanfiction which I've downloaded using FanFicFare.

Easy. Either queue all of your books to refresh their .opf files via the Library menu submenu for that, or mass change some metadata column only for those needing them. Leave Calibre running while it slowly does it work.

How would I refresh the them?

When I tried to restore database it deleted 1/3 of the books in the trial library.

Also how do I find those without the opf file? What would the search-term be?

@Tanjamuse - see calibredb backup_metadata

Ensure the library in question is the current library, then close calibre GUI and run the command, probably best to use the --all option.

Then figure out why they disappeared.

If they are newly added books the files will probably be created without any action on your part.

To create those files go to the Library icon - Library Maintenance - Library metadata backup status - Queue all books for backup this will create opf files for every book in your library.

Thanks, that worked like a charm. I have no idea why some of the opf's were missing.

If these were OLD entries, then something:
1) deleted them (using the OS)
2) interfered with the "dirtied" (metadata) flag in the DB which triggers the regeneration when anything related to that book, changes.
3) Cloud backup/sync ? clashed with who is the valid. version
4) Something else

At least I now have an easy (if time-consuming) way to recreate them, should it happen again.

If it happens again, you really need to discover WHAT is going south with your system.
Because, this is not, in any way, normal

The opf files are only used in the event you need to restore the database. A good library backup works as well.

I wondered if it's because it hadn't finished creating all the opf's before I've changed to a different library. I had to redo a lot of metadata and I think that's when they disappeared.

But it should continue, when you switch back to that library. The Status on the Library Maintenance, should tell you what (how many) still is pending
