Using the search function doesn't yield results

I don't understand how the search facility works in Calibre. If I type, say, title:"research" in the search field and press the return key, Calibre will jump to a book title with 'research' in the title, but it will also still yield my entire library in the results. I've just watched a video by Kovid demonstrating Calibre and his example shows a filtered set of results for when he does a search for 'george r. r. martin' - which is exactly the kind of search results I'm looking for. I don't see what I'm doing differently, though. Any ideas?

See Search is showing all books with some highlighted! How do I fix this?

Well, I'd never have found that - thanks! An odd thing for a plugin to change

ODD?
You have 10,000 books and want to see the results.

What was possibly overlooked when it was designed, was saving the starting state.
But... How do you show results like it does, and not block further (remedial) actions??
Kiwidude is a way better programmer than I. I think that if it was possible, he (or the current maintainers) would have done it.

BTW the PI is not encrypted, you are free to make changes within the terms of use

Not hard to find, there are sticky threads at the top of the main Calibre forum, and its Library Management sub-forum.

A change in the calibre base exploited a feature previously only used by a couple of plugins, the developer of which (Kiwidude) is no longer active, hence they haven't been bought into line with the revised calibre base.
