No Metadata

Hi everyone,

First post and its a moan so sorry!

Using Calibre Portable on Windows 7

1. Downloaded Kindle for PC
2. Downloaded various books
3. Couldn't find the files I was expecting 'AZW' etc only folders with carious files including EBOK files that Calibre accepted
4. Imported these

The probelm is that Calibre only recognizes a few. With the others they're all missing cover, author and other Metadata. They open ok but no recognizable details re the book itself.

Any ideas?

The EBOK files are not all books. You should see the file extension of .azw or .azw4 after the EBOK. If you don't see those extensions you most likely have them hidden under folder options (see attached). You can find the folder options by simply entering folder options in the search at the bottom of the start menu and selecting the folder options result at the top.

Once you are only adding the proper files you can concentrate on whether the link Ravensknight provided is applicable.

Thanks but unfortunately neither of these fixes worked.

Seems it doesn't work anymore.

I changed the version etc as in first post, then the second re hidden files. But this only revealed the EBOK file to have the right extension of azw.

Pity....

In your opening post I thought you were adding files that were not books. If now you are only adding AZW files you'll have to explain exactly what your outcome is and what you are experiencing. Include the exact version of all your software involved.

What I am experiencing is that:

a) Can only find ***EBOK.azw files after download a book to a PC, or by accessing them on a HDX 8.9 or my Samsung Phone

b) They 'import' ok into Calibre, but have no title, no cover, no TOC.

I don't have all the information at hand right now re version numbers.

Do they open in calibre's viewer? If they do not open go to Apprentice Alf's blog for DRM removal guidance. Against forum policy to give you detailed instructions in this area.

When you have access to the version numbers let us know (possibly important).

• Is there any difference in the outcome between the books added to the library that you grabbed from you HDX 8.9 or my Samsung Phone and those obtained from Kindle for PC.
• Are these books you recently downloaded or books that have been in those locations for a while?
• Did you ever have adding AZW books via these avenues work successfully in the past?
• Do you have the latest tools from Apprentice Alf's blog installed?

Yep tools from Apprentice Alf's blog installed. I have actually successfully done this before and turned pretty much everything that was in my Kindle library into ePubs as I wanted to try different readers - so no idea what is going on now.

Narrows things down some. I may have updated post 8, review and supply info on other questions. Hopefully someone else will have the answer.

On the surface it would seem the answer Ravensknight pointed you to is where you will find the solution. Good Luck.

You have NOT ticked the Preference:adding Books: Read metadata from contents . It is trying to use the file name
