H2O battery - just normal ageing?

Hi fellow Kobo readers,

My trusty, beautiful H2O must be getting on for two years old soon. It never goes long without me using it, and I try not to let the battery get much below 50% most of the time (though I did a couple of fuller discharge cycles when I first got it).

Lately that drop to around the halfway mark has been occurring more quickly, which is to be expected I guess. I've just had it charging from the wall for an hour or two, and it's stopped charging and is showing "full" with the little tick, but the battery meter only reads 96%. All normal and expected signs of ageing? (Heck, I'm around halfway through my expected lifespan too, I wish I felt 96%...)

It sounds normal. Typically the capacity of a lithium battery might be expected to fall by around 30% after 3 years, so a noticeable decline after 2 years is not unusual.

Many devices will rapidly charge up to about 95% (at which point they'll say "fully charged") and then slowly gain the final 5% over a much longer period of time.

Is there any particular point to continuing to charge it after it first says "fully charged"? (apart from that very slightly longer time before it runs out)

With my Aura 6", I find if I charge to the 100% indication and immediately unplug, the power drops from 100% pretty quickly - within 10 or 15 minutes of reading. If I leave it charging, It stays at 100% for quite a while, i.e. a couple of hours of reading. I have always thought of that like the fuel gage in my car - it shows full for 30-40 miles before you notice the gauge moving.

I would try charging overnight.

You know, I was just thinking to myself this week how well my own two year old h2o is doing. It gets daily use of at least half an hour. In October I took it on a ten day holiday where it put up with being read pretty much constantly through the day while I sat on a sunlounger and drank rum. I charged it once during that time only, with a top up before we caught the plane home. It's interesting to see how other devices are holding up. I'm please with the h2o, as my old glo didn't make two years before the usb port broke. I'm hoping the h2o keeps going strongly. The lack of micro SD card support on the newer models puts me off a bit, so I want to use the h2o as long as possible. I'll need to pay attention to how much charge it uses.
