how i found the definitive ereader
Some of you know in the years may know I have always looked for the ideal ereader, and I was always wronged by the lack of eink double screen tablets.
Well I found a solution that works perfect to me in less than 600 grams with 3 components. I would like to share with who could be interested 1)I bought a samsung galaxy note tab s2 265 grams, super amoled screen 365 euro, 414 ppi definition, really fast. There I have kobo, kindle, fbreader, mantano moon+reader, with dictionaries colordict, cora.. I can see the coverage of my books on the sun, scroll demanding pdf really fast, finding notes and whatever i need. Also the roundabout 3000 digital books I own( no drm) are (almost)backed up in a way that I can preserve highlight and notes, i namely I found a solution, but still have to implement it. Also, when I am on the go, or just want to lay on the bed, this magnificent(8.0) inches tablets allow me to see movies and tv series on the bed, train, or wherever I am 2)Yotaphone 2 for 275 euro 145 grams, the famous russian phone with android lollipop. It will arrive in few days, and has a double eink lcd display that can be skipped easily. I am planning to put the same software to read the books under the sun, exploiting the fast eink surface, and also to put the podcasts and ebook audio I love while I am on the go or with bike, when using a tablet would be awkward. And no eyestrains of course. 3) a 30 euro power bank of 150 grams from xtorms, in the case the tablet battery needs a recharge on the go. Not the yotaphone, because does not have problems with battery life as I can switch it continuosly in eink mode adding hours. Not to name that google maps can last for hours on the eink part, and all the notifications, watch, forecast are always on. All in all with 660 euro and 560 grams, I have an ereader eink, a good and durable video player, a telephone and a tablet android, while before, with an amount of money much bigger, I had an ereader+coverage+ telephone+tablet + adapters and cable that needed a backpack, while now I can manage to put the telephone in one trouser pocket, the power bank in another, and the tablet( really thin, in whatever jacket) ![]() I am curious to know if you like my decision and if you have a similar framework. Isn't it a little premature to be declaring it to be the definitive solution before you've actually tried it? There have been many eInk Android devices. Opinions of them have been mixed, it's fair to say.

In order of your interventions
@Kacir, I know but could not find salersin the Netherlands, I searched with Amazon for ages, and found out that the most economic solution was 275 eu. If you are based on Great Britain you can benefit for 163 eu or so. Anyay I remember when went out in the market, and I did not buy for the high price. @HarryT true, but I am following reviews, and forums since looong time. Did not buy before because of the price, and the dimensions, now that I have my 8 inches android tablet, can afford the idea to read epub/pdf on eink with 5 inches. I just think companies have been really myope to not reply with that, I had a discussion in the kindle forum and was attached by everyone saying that this was a great phone, I think there is a huge potential for this idea. a 5.5 would EDIT: Yota has a great pro, a powerful processor beyond, and the possibility to choice three modalities to switch from LCD to Eink, and the one "on the fly is just fantastic, because is faster than ever using your favorite explorer, or app on the lcd part and then when you are ready to start to read, you just switch to the eink screen in a second. This is a feature so far any android eink reader had it. Everybody knows that they were sluggish. have been better although. Pity in the amazon Kindle forum, people made jokes of me when I was proposing to consider a kindle fire double screen. Now.. is where the market is going...eink cover are sexy and still...are far to have this integrated touch experience @Gerge I am more picky for Dutch dictionaries. Anyway I can use also third part dictionary or look up on the internet. What really matters to me is to have the pop up with immediate look up in the app I mentioned. I'm not saying that you're deluded. Just that I'd like to hear your opinion after you've used it, rather than on the basis of advertising hype. I wasn't overly impressed with my Onyx T68.

I was pretty excited when the Yotaphone became available. I pretty much agree it would be the perfect device for me. But then I started reading and watching reviews and even though none went into much detail they mostly had derogatory things to say about using it for books. As I recall it was something about controlling things from the e-ink screen, but I may not remember that right. Also I couldn't afford their high price.
A few weeks ago I saw one on sale for $150, I think maybe at Amazon but I'm not sure now, and I was very tempted. I can manage that price but only if I'm very sure I can use it for reading. I spent some time googling and I couldn't find anything very definite one way or the other so I decided not to risk it. I'd really like to find out that I'm wrong about this in case I get another chance so please do go into some detail about using it for reading. I'm particularly interested in using it with Moon+ reader. If it will work smoothly with that I want one. Please let us know if it truly is the definitive ereader. Barry |

in order of appeareance
![]() HarryT onyx t68 has 265 ppi, android 4.0,1 GHz Cortex-A9 dual core cpu, 512 MB RAM, while yotaphone has 235 ppi, android 4.4.3 ( possible update to 5 lollipop) and .. here the difference Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 (2.26Ghz quad core) and 2GB RAM this means responsiveness, as I can see for all the reviews for the YP2 vs the sluggishness of onyx t68. Another important point you run android 100%, not customed launchers, you decide all, because Android is customizable, you build your system. But most important: you get an amoled screen with 16 M color, the only technology that allow lcd to be readable under the sun, with the LCD responsiveness.... this means you go on lcd, super fast, select your book, open your colored nice cover jump to the page you want and you press the mirror function and in one sec turning the phone you can read! This is an HUGE advantage, I get frustrated when I want to scroll my collections, or switch between books on ereaders like T68, so I understand you fully. edit: but if one does not tolerate lcd at all, can use also only the lcd screen, although not optimally big, just 4,7 inches. Possibly will be possible to use in landscape mode, I do not know that at the moment, but for me is super fine, i can enlarge character, after all for years I read newspapers with small rows, and I loved because i could read one row casting my eye on the center of the row barryem Dear chap, is on my agenda, get tuned, I know that you love reading and cannot stand the eye strains due to your age, I am a developer I know what you mean, at the moment I use a strategy to relax the eyes, looking after 5 min I stare the lcd screen, to a whatever corner in the office, or in the house, for 20 seconds, at office I have a window with some magnificent autumn trees in a really beautiful location in Amsterdam, it definitely helps a lot, together to close the eyes once in a while, and have a deskcycling, that is amazing, you can use it also if you are 76( one of my favorite human beings, started to do 42 km marathons at 86 years, now is 104 and still runs), in this way the eyes get fresher because of the blood circulation. Anyway stay tuned if you like, I will tell you everything( also if I know that 4.7 inches(vs 5 of the lcd) are not optimal, but still we can enlarge the characters ![]() ![]() Kacir what a pity, I would have rather bought there, anyway with bol.com in the Netherlands I have every kind of return guarantee, if is a trusted sellers, I could buy a spare one if I will become an hard yota user, even because I love to play chess on the sun ![]() ![]() Said that the YP2 is a little jewel, the only problem is was not known outside a niche group, because Putin was giving away as gift to the people visiting Russia, as flag of the level of technology. So there is much more involved in the lack of success of this phone, and companies... you know geeks and marketers not always read political news, basing their researches on marketing researches, but you know, there are not too many visionary steve jobs out there! ![]() ![]() EDIT did I mention the 32GB of storage? Just if you want to put the Alexandria library on your device ![]() Last edited by trocchietto; 10-17-2016 at 05:12 PM. |

I think a 4.7" screen would be ideal. My current phone, a Nexus 5, has a 5" screen. My previous one, a Moto E, had a 4.5" screen. For reading I prefer the 4.5" screen. I had to switch to an unlocked phone because I get free service on this one from Medicare and I couldn't on the other one.
I can't read on the phone for extended periods but I enjoy every minute of reading on it. I wish I could read more on it. That's why the Yotaphone is so tempting. But it's a lot of money to spend for something that I suspect isn't going to work well for reading, based on the reviews of it I read when it first came out. Anyway, I'll be waiting to hear what you say. Barry |

125 eu, well come on, in US and EU countries is nothing for such a device, you get a good phone and an ereader. Should be a no brainer. Anyway budget is king, and wasting money is deprecable, I will definetely come back to you after the 25th, data it should arrive to me.
barnyem, there was a lot at stake with YP2, you smart and understand what I am saying and already mentioned. Nobody knew, no launch campaigns on the street, tv, media.... imagine the impact would have had, for even people that do not read: the first phone that won't leave you without charge, or get lost with google maps on your bike. Is alluring, and I remember that the reviews were only negative regarding the price that was more than 600 eu( and also i read some problems to update the android version if I well recall.) but still it is undeniable that the link I sent you and all the reviews on youtube show the first eink really responsive, the only con can be the small screen, but as you are happy with 4,7 eink+5 LCD amoled, i challenge you to find weak points. But I repeat, will come back edit: even the kacir buyer's link show a video with an amazing eink performance... this can not be made it up, or at least not by all the reviewers http://www.gearbest.com/cell-phones/...981.html?wid=4, I have some karma in the forum so you can read I am only driven to find the definitive ereader experience, I do not partake with everybody Last edited by trocchietto; 10-18-2016 at 08:10 AM. |

It looks fascinating. At £110, I've ordered one. I'll review once it arrives.
