Hello.

I haven't been able to find anything in regards to this:

Can CC count the amount of times a book has been opened, and send the informations to Calibre?

If not, could it be implemented as a possible sync point back to Calibre?

Just simple numbers.

I hope this made sense

I understand what you are asking for, but it isn't something I want to do. We would need to make a UI to manage the numbers (clear, show, set). What happens if you read 2 different formats of the same book? What happens if you "read" a book that you haven't finished? And so on.

Sorry ...

That's okay

I hadn't thought "what if I don't finished it".

Do you have another suggestion for a similar setup? I've been trying to sync the automatic "date last read" column and wondering if I can use that in some way, but I can't get it to sync.

Syncing date read works for a lot of people. Have you done all the steps in the FAQ Can I synchronize CC's Read and Date Read information with calibre? and in particular have set a lookup name in CC for the calibre "date" custom column?

Are you actually setting CC's date read? If you turn off the auto-set option (Update Date Read when read) then nothing will sync unless you manually set the date in book details.

Have you checked the setting "Sync only from calibre to CC"? If so then the information will never move from CC to calibre.

Ok, I misunderstood. I thought that it was one column for the one you set yourself and a separate for one auto-created by CC

It works fine then.

I was thinking about creating a ratings-system based on the amount of times I've read a story. Which is why I was asking about collecting the amount of times a story is read.

Do you have any other suggestions, otherwise I'll go back to my brainstorming.

Have a good sunday

I can imagine a plugin generating an approximate value. In particular, I think that a "Library Closed" plugin could check to see if "date read" has changed during the calibre session and if so then increment some counter. It could also set a custom rating field based on the value of the counter.

Of course, to do this one must know how to write a plugin.

I might try and ask in the forum if anyone can do something like that.

Thanks again Chaley

Hi again.

I've tried uninstalling and re-installing the app a couple of times now, but it doesn't automatically change the date read, as you can see in the screenshot it should do it, but whenever I read a book and return to CC it still says "Set Date Read" in the metadata. Also when I sync back to Calibre, it doesn't mark the books which has metadata, that has been changed.

Are you going into book details, tapping "Read" there, then returning to book details? If so, then the problem is that the date read is not refreshed. Go back to the book list and then enter book details again. You will see the new date.

That took care of the automatic date, but it still doesn't show up as marked in Calibre when I sync back to Calibre.

Automatically setting "date read" does not automatically set "read". You must set that manually.
