Can't See Any Way to Duplicate a Book...

I think someone discussed a way to do this, but I can't find the post, I can only find posts about detecting duplicates.

If I'm creating empty books for 2 volumes and importing the 3rd, I'm going to want most of the same metadata for all three. If I can duplicate the books, or copy the medtata, it saves the pain of typing it all three times.

Click the book you want to duplicate, then the "Add books" icon. Choose "Add Empty Book (Book Entry with No Formats)" and it'll offer to take details from the currently selected book. Then you can just add the format into the newly created empty book entry.

Good grief, I add empty books (ctrl+shift+e) several times week and I never noticed that button before.

Added: and already I can think of situations when I might use it

You're welcome, of course. There's so very many features and buttons and options in Calibre, I figure there's tons I don't know about too, so I try to share when I've figured out something neat.

This is super useful to me personally when I've read book 1 of a series and I've decided I'm probably going to read more: I populate the next few books of the series and leave them empty, tag them as "to get" and sync with my to get shelf in GR. Then I can use the GR app view of that shelf as a shopping list when I'm actually at a book store or digging around in the library.

Even Kovid has been known to forget things There are many areas of calibre about which I know diddly-squat.

One of the downsides being keyboard centric is that I only glance at the dialogue windows because I'm not trying to steer a pointer with device.

We all have set ways of doing things. I always forget that there's an "Add Books" menu item in Calibre, because I always add them by dragging books from Windows Explorer onto the Calibre window .
