Energy Sistem Ereader Pro HD, new user questions

Hi guys,

I'm a brand new member, just registered!

So today I got what I think was a great deal on Amazon Uk, the Energy Sistem Ereader Pro HD for just under £90 direct from Energy Sistem (was the last one from them 20% off!) and the genuine case from another seller which i felt was expensive £14 + £12 delivery!

A little about me, i like android and linux, i like to play and tinker, i like to root, i like Google and use their services where ever I can. I have a chromebook laptop which runs a full linux distro with a windows 7 virtual machine, I use nexus phones (currently nexus 6p). I have a very small library on Google Play Books but I wanted an ereader which wasn't going to tie me into a particular eco system, like Kindle as I already started buying books from Google. To me this seems like the perfect device and i bought it mostly for an up coming holiday and I have liked the idea of an ereader for a while, I didn't know there was so much choice in the market outside of the Kindle world until you really start looking, I saw ones that run android and i knew i had to get one! This will be my first ereader.

So iv read around a little and i understand that Energy Sistem are often rebranded Boyue models and i have a few questions if anyone would be kind enough to answer:

1 which Boyue model is the Pro HD based on?

2 I would like to root it, and use use the full screen app to remove the status bar, which is the best method for this device? as i dont know which boyue model its based off i dont know if the boyue modding thread (near the top in the android development sub forum) would be of any help which is. apk would be preferable but i do have adb / fastboot access and can use linux or windows on my laptop

3 provided i can successfully root i would like to remap the left hand side page turn buttons to control the screen brightness, is that possible? up and down keys according if possible

4 maybe remap other keys, not sure yet

5 I intend on continuing to use Google play for my books, can you high light a single word and save it as a note like the regular android app? I use these to keep my place as well as book marks. It will sync my progress between devices in this way to?

I know its quite a bit to ask, and at the moment im waiting for delivery, im just very excited about my new device!

What do you expect with such specific questions about a device that does not belong to the mainstream readers?

I was looking at those in Amazon UK. My kid lives there, so I asked her about the mfg and got no answer.

Why don't you check the reviews on Amazon, see if there are any clues on a UK site?

They are Spanish and seem to do many electronics.

About Google, I can't help. I sideloaded onto a Coby tablet and regretted it. Google is getting too nosy.

My inkBOOK uses appmarket. You can also use Amazon for apps.

There is also an Android Tablet forum, they might just cover it. They did cover the Coby. I know it's an ereader, but some companies do have both tablets and ereaders. It covers that release of Android anyway.

It is custom made. The basis might have been the Boyue Shine. However it is not the same.

You can easily root it. Try for example root master. However there is little benefit in rooting it. Alreader already works in full screen mode without rooting. The default modified fb reader is also o.k. Unless you want to use another reader app. But then you have to either install the exposed framework or an app like fullscreen. This all drains the battery. So why bother?

Mapping the keys is theoretically possible. However it will require changes to the rom. I have not heard of anyone that has done that.

You can also try to cook and install one of the Gonyx roms.
