How easy to bulk convert epub to mobi?

I have been looking for a new reader. I have focused on epub compatibility as my whole 8 year library is in that format (current reader is a PRS-505).

But it occurred to me that I shouldn't rule out Kindle IF it would be easy to convert the books I already have.

Opinions on how easy it would be?

You could go with a Kobo Reader because they handle ePub and you would not have to convert.

But if you did go for a Kindle, you'd want to convert to AZW3 and NOT Mobi.

If you've removed the DRM from the ePubs, very simple indeed with calibre.

Thanks. Was unaware of different Kindle formats.

Calibre makes it very easy to convert. But I suggest you wait until later this month as Kobo is supposed to be releasing new Readers. One 6" and one 7.8". Then you can decide what you want.

As pdurrant said, it's very easy to convert your books (that is, in fact, one of calibre's primary reasons for existing ).

If you decide to buy a Kindle, simply connect it to your computer, let it be detected by calibre, then select your books and click Send to Device.

calibre will automatically detect that there are no Kindle-compatible formats in your library, and convert them before sending. No user interaction is required.

...

Make sure to use "Configure this device" to select AZW3 as a valid Kindle format, and push it to the top of the list.
By default it is not included, since that driver is shared by the K2/K3.

The question was BULK convert. The reason to do this is time, as you get to choose when you have plenty of it

Select a group of books, Tap C (convert): Make sure the output format is AZW3. OK

OTOH if you are just sending a few:
Eschwartz showed you how to configure the device driver, so IF you sent a book that was NOT already in a Kindle format, it would offer to auto-convert.
From EPUB to AZW3, the job usually runs fairly brisk UNLESS the book has many images or complex markup.
