PW2 light does not turn on after waking up.
Hi there,
My PW2 does it every once in a while and I suppose it started after updating 5.6.x. Basically, I wake it up, book I am reading comes on the screen but backlight is off. So I send it to sleep and wake up again to sort it out. Is it normal? ![]() |

When is the last time you charged it?
Though you might try a restart. Either go to the menu and click restart or hold the power button about 40 seconds. That usually helps. Oh cover or no cover? |

My P3 does that once in awhile. I just figured it was the normal infrequent glitchiness we can expect from things. Does your P2 do that often?

Mine is in a magnetic leather cover. Running 5.6.1.1 I'll monitor it better to see if there is any pattern to when it wakes with light on vs light off. |

I am reading everyday, around 3 times a day, it happens maybe once a fortnight. I tried pushing sleep/wake up button many times if I can catch it when it happens to no avail. So there is no pattern ![]() At least I am not the only one, perhaps it has always been this way but I did not notice since I had kept light lower. |

Happens to my PW3 as well. Often when I open my sleep cover. It's either the light stays on (I take a peek without lifting the cover) or the light won't turn on.

My PW2 does it daily. I'll try a restart.

Happens to me on my PW2 as well. At first I was very concerned, but either closing and reopening the sleep cover or as IFixKindles posted--adjusting the brightness will turn the light on as well. It's happened ever since I bought my PW2--which was quite a few years ago now. Only happens once in a while, but seems to happen more when I have my Kindle in cheaper covers (as opposed to the official Amazon cover).
I'm pretty sure I've had this happen with my Voyage once or twice as well--no where near the frequency of the PW2, though. |

It happened occasionally with my PW2. It's never happened with my Voyage. When it does happen, a restart will sort it out.

It happened with my PW1 fairly routinely (usually losing track of the light state on turning it off or closing the cover, whereupon only a reboot would turn the light off in future, but sometimes failing in the other direction) until I upgraded to firmware 5.6.x. It looks like they fixed it to me.

I have all 3 models of the Paperwhite and a Voyage and they all do that every now and then. Not very often. Not even every week. I'm not sure it's even once a month. But it happens to all of them.
I mostly use them with covers so most of the time it happens when I open the cover. Usually I can just close the cover and open it again and it's fine. Sometimes I have to use the button to put it to sleep and wake it up and that fixes it. I think it's happened a time or two when I wasn't using the cover and just woke them up. I don't remember for sure that's happened but I think it has. I've used them a lot without covers in the past so if it did happen it was very rare. Barry |
