Looks like the next gen Moto G phone has a $50 discount through Amazon if you choose the 'offers and ads' option at https://www.amazon.com/. Still pricey to use as a small tablet/reader but a good deal if you need a new phone too. This is a pre-order, btw.

There's also a BLU R1 HD phone available for $49 with offers.

The Moto G4 offered me an additional $25 off, to be reduced at check out. I don't know how long that will last or who will qualify.

Both phones offer a model with double the onboard storage:

• $50 -- Blu R1 HD --> 1GB RAM | 8GB ROM
• $60 -- Blu R1 HD --> 2GB RAM | 16GB ROM
  
  
• $150 -- Moto G 4 --> 2GB RAM | 16GB ROM
• $180 -- Moto G 4 --> 2GB RAM | 32GB ROM

I don't know anything about the quality of Blu, but spending the extra $10 to double the RAM and storage is definitely worth it; even though it has a card slot.

The Moto G only doubles the storage and it's an additional $30. Since it has a card slot, that may or may not be worth it.

I got that extra $25 off offer too which made this irresistible. The phone's bigger than what I want but my 2 y/o Nexus 5 battery isn't what it used to be. Which wasn't that great to begin with. I'd been bracing myself to part with $300+ for a replacement anyway so maybe I won't mind it's size.
