Risks of Leaving Content Server On
I am finding using content server with CC is the best way to get books onto my device (Fire 5th gen). But, no matter what I try, I have a problem with downloading all 10k books on my device. So I would like to leave CC on when I go on vacation so I can download books. The permissions say only Calibre can pierce the firewall. So is it really so bad to leave content server on?

To do that, you need to open a pinhole (port forward) to allow a specific outside service request to reach a designated 'server' Any opening is a elevation in risk. How much is one (calibre HTTP) port to your entire system? Probably not much if you keep your security updates current. What is to be considered, is anyone that finds your content server can download those books. |

Another way would be to keep a copy of the calibre library on a flash drive, which you attach to your Tab and then use CC's Cloud Connect facility, which can access a calibre library on local attached storage as if it were a cloud service.
The less one relies on networks the more one gets done ![]() BR |

Thanks. I am talking about downloading off premises, but I don't care if someone could download my books. Just worried someone might be able to plant a virus or something.
Downloading to a portable hard drive is a great idea. Thanks, Debra |
