Sneaky update to 5.7.2, how to recover?

My kindle did an update to 5.7 from 5.6 without asking me. Not only do I dislike the interface, I have lost KUAL. My fault for not blocking updates or enabling Airplane mode, I know.

I had performed a full jailbreak (jailbreak, dev certificates and KUAL) on 5.6 before this happened.

When it started up after updating, there was a message under the first Kindle screen, but I didn't see what it said, and it does not appear after rebooting post update.

I had not installed any form of rescue pack.

Is there a way to recover my jailbreak?

I don't see that you installed the 'hotfix'.

Assuming your jailbreak was version 1.13.N or later, it is still intact. If not, go get the hotfix from the jailbreak thread.

The boot message at the bottom of the screen was presumably telling you that the MKK was being restored after the firmware update.

Eschwartz - it's gone. The KUAL icon is just gone.

The 5.6.5 jailbreak is 'certificate only' -
If the hotfix was not run, there is nothing installed to restore the jb.

Note to moderators: I have a recent post in the jb thread requesting an edit of the first post (and used the report post feature to get it done).

Hmm, at first I overlooked the "jailbreak on 5.6", because the OP said he saw the first-time-reboot message from the bridge (or so I presume).
And I thought Branch Delay's jailbreak doesn't include the MKK.

KUAL definitely worked - I was trying to build a "Kindleberry Pi" using kterm and SSH - never got around to testing SSH, but kterm definitely worked.

Because you directly installed the MKK package, rather than let the 'hotfix' install it, along with it 'survival kit' parts.

I didn't "follow half the procedure" - there was no $£%£$ hotfix file when I jailbroke! (I jailbroke close to the method's release)
