Calibre library blank screen

So I wanted to rename the calibre library I've been using for a number of years. I ran into one error after another. Using Calibre 3.3 64 bit on win 7. First problem was that the program still had an old directory it thought was the library, and it couldn't find that because the library had moved a long time ago. It appears two different sites were in the program as the spot for the library, as the db from the current library location always showed in the program, until I tried renaming the library.

The error I got was that the library was missing attribute "backend" and this error wouldn't go away, I ended up having to force close the app. the library location is on a NAS, I don't know if that is something that calibre has trouble with, I haven't had any trouble using the app before.

Anyway, when I restarted the program, the name change had gone through, but the screen now has no metadata. blank screen. I attempt to restore the database, but I get a quick message that this cannot be done, then the screen telling me the that old database got backed up (and I see that it was).

what can I do to restore the on screen db?

Try switch/create library. On top does the path "current library location" match what you expect? (location of metadata.db) If not, pick the correct path and select existing library.

Then again strange things happen when running over network/samba. Being curious, I've notice in 3.0 locks up when deleting a book over samba but worked fine under 2.0. Since this scenario is not supported or recommended... be aware of the risks.

See ==>> I am getting errors with my calibre library on a networked drive/NAS?

BTW the FAQ item is not new, it's been there for years.

Oops, I knew about that issue, but I didn't realize that I wasn't using the correct location for metadata.db until I tried to copy the library over to a local drive for testing in response to BetterRed's comment, and realized that something was off. So switching to the correct location of metadata.db fixed the problem. Sigh. So easy to make dumb mistakes in this world.

Re that network FAQ comment, I guess I like living dangerously, but using a Synlogoy NAS isn't really dangerous, past experience has shown. Didn't have any problems with Calibre before, but we'll see if version 3 causes trouble as uli has had.

Thanks all for suggestions. I needed both of your comments to happen upon the source of the problem.
