Question Tags deleted when not associated w. any books

Right now if no books are associated with a certain tag, it gets deleted. To get around this, I've made a "dummy" book and assigned all the tags to it to make sure all tags will have at least be assigned to 1 book, but this isn't ideal. Is there any setting or a plugin I can use to make sure tags with 0 books associated aren't deleted?

No. The DB is self cleaning (but not purged. You need to run Library Maintenance phase 1 for that)

You are using the best solution.

Just curiosity, but why would you want to keep a tag that isn't being used?
Surely if you need it again you just apply to any book?
Apologies if I'm missing something obvious.

Because it is a Personal Standard that I always want to be able to select (and discard the absurd mis-mash that is used by many)
A General is a Military position, not a book class.
What does the word Fiction in Science Fiction imply. So why do I also need a Fiction Tag
We use computers. We no longer need help finding the root parts of a class

I have 63 tags that correspond to physical folders on my hard drive. I want those 63 tags to persist even if there are no books associated with them since they have correlated subject folders on my hard drive. If you remember your library card catalog, you don't ditch a drawer because it doesn't have any index cards at the moment. You let it wait to be filled up later.

Which is a fair thing to want.

And you will need to keep a placeholder to reserve that "drawer", or calibre will assume you no longer need it.
(In calibre, actions are centered around the books, not around subjects/tags.)
