Horrific Possibility: How to verify that a book is genuine from Amazon.com?

Hi all,

I really need advice from the knowledgeable people on Mobileread! Since my education is the most important thing in my life this has been an issue that's on my mind all day long. Even before I fall asleep I'm bothered by this issue.

I just wanted to know how I can verify that a paperback book was genuine? Could someone please share their method of checking that a book is genuine before buying the book?

This is the book I'm wanting to buy, but I'm not sure how to verify that it's genuine:

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Actually, I've already re-read that thread multiple times. This question is different as that thread was only about Amazon Kindle Ebooks and this is about PAPERBACK Amazon.com books.

EDIT: Since I consider myself lucky to be a member on this website, I wouldn't have created this thread if I could find the answers in the old thread.

There is no difference between non-fiction paperbacks and ebooks when it comes to considering the accuracy of their contents.

Research the author
Research the publisher
Check the publication date
Check reviews by known reviewers.

Thanks guys, but I wouldn't have created this thread if I thought the question was similar to my Amazon Kindle Ebook thread. This topic is different because it's about a completely different format to ebooks.

I'd really appreciate if this thread could be left open so I can hear advice from other members!

Have I misunderstood your question? Are you really asking how to check whether a paperback you receive is the actual published book or a forgery?

I think the OP is asking if the content in the book is valid/correct/authentic. This is no different to validating that the content is valid/correct/authentic in an eBook. The format of the book makes no difference. So yes, it really is the same topic as before. The only difference is the book in question.

What exactly are you worried about (my question to the OP)? What is it that frightens you so?

I just want to be certain that the paperback book I buy was written by the author and there isn't someone impersonating the author by creating an Amazon Sales Page and selling the paperback book.

There has not been one report of anyone doing that. We cannot verify if the book is any good, but the book is by the author it says it is.

What would make you think that the author might be impersonating someone, or that someone might be impersonating the author? Why would someone want to do such a thing?

Like the others have said...same question just different formats.
By the way, it would be almost impossible for someone to do what you were thinking.
