Prevent filename changing when adding to library or saving to device
Hello.
As in thread name. I did a quick search on this forum and the internet but english is not my native language so my search probably wasn't that deep and good therefore I apologize if this question have been answered elsewhere or is dumb. What I want is to convert some books from epub to mobi but just on adding those books to calibre library file-names are changed and therefore after converting and saving to device or somewhere else too. I know that there is an option to template, changed the way file-names are given at saving to device but I also after a search I still don't know if I could do something there. |

Yes, under Preferences ==> Saving books to disk or Sending books to device, you can set a filename template based on the metadata -- sent/exported books will be saved with that filename.
No, you have no control whatsoever over the filename of calibre's copy of the book. ... Is there any particular detail that you would like to ask about? |

Thanks for quick reply.
After it I went to: http://manual.calibre-ebook.com/template_ref.html and find out that the thing I want is "field(name)" but now I don't know how to input this into save settings in calibre. |

Code:
{fieldname} Help us by giving us the information we need to help you. ![]() P.S. That would be http://manual.calibre-ebook.com/template_lang.html The reference page is not the same thing at all, it is far more specific and not meant as a tutorial. Last edited by eschwartz; 12-25-2015 at 02:17 PM. |

You are such a kind person, thank You.
I want to keep the name of the file/book after converting and saving somewhere, the same as it was before adding to calibre. So I have like "The Four Noble Truths[1999]. A Study Guide - Thanissaro Bhikkhu.epub" but after I add this to calibre and going to calibre library folder that was created of that book I see it's named now like "01MMain.book - Than.epub" and even after changing in mentioned preferences to "{fieldname}" I get after converting and saving a file "21.mobi". |

"fieldname" implies you have to specify a specific field...
Question: Where in calibre do you have the original filename? I have a custom column "#origfile" where I manually store the original filename, so I use a filename save template which under certain conditions evaluates to Code:
{#origfile} |
